He is the opposite of George Sisler and Harry Heilmann (who couldn't quite get into either set).

I was a year behind them in school at Albright. Of course the story of it's origins is a little different now than what I heard when it all went down, which was that they were stoned off their asses watching Tremors.

Now do it in exactly 9 steps, where everyone plays a different position on the diamond.

In the spirit of the thread, and we did this years ago, who pitched to both Ted Williams and Julio Franco?

Colon retired after Ortiz. So the 10th man was a rookie in 2018. The question then becomes, which 2018 rookie is going to have the longest career?
How about Juan Soto as the 10th man? He was a 19 year old rookie in 2018, and is already a superstar. He could, potentially, take us through 2040. Last edited by nat; 12-13-2022 at 11:10 AM. Reason: Guessing Soto as 10th man. |

I love these longevity discussions. Nolan Ryan pitched to both Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr.

Maybe make it tougher and say Ryan threw to Frank Thomas and Frank Thomas? I like that Ryan pitched to Jim Gilliam and Manny Ramirez. He might have also pitched to Joe Nuxhall.

Not sure if he's been brought up, but Minnie Miñoso adds a bit of intrigue to this scenario. He started with the Indians in 1949, and technicalities aside, he played his last game in 1980, so he could serve as a huge bridge in this Kevinbaconesque game.

Perhaps my favorite so far. Gaylord Perry pitched to Stan Musial and Wade Boggs.

When you are working on longevity questions, Jack Quinn can be a handy Swiss army knife as he pitched from 1909 to 1933. Geronimo died the year he was a rookie. Yoko Ono was born the year he hung it up.
