The checkmark thing worked well when it was free but only available to people who could actually be verified.

When they made it open to anyone with a few bucks a month.... It went poorly.

I've already purchased the handle "TheRealREAAuctions" on both twitter and Net54. Now everybody please send your consignments directly to my storage facility in Belize so I may give them the once over.

It was never really free since many were paying up to $50,000 to pretend they were important. They were hustled--just like their followers who huddled around the illusion that they were an "expert".
