Member and BST Warning
It has come to my attention that one or more parties are replying via email to BST "wanted to buy" listings by members claiming to be myself identifying themselves as user SB1 and offering them the cards they are looking for. However it turns out that it is not me and no cards exist that they purport and the unsuspecting buyer gets taken.
As a rule unless I know the party making a post I reply thru PM's and do all of my activity on the board that way. I often have items listed on the BST as SB1 and you can rest assured that is myself. IF anyone contacts you claiming to be me and you are suspicious, you are advised to contact myself and/or Leon. Also, thru my auction site I have had a board member Dan McHugh (vintagehofrookies) not honor his winning bids, which were a sizable amount. After speaking to other AH principals I have discovered this has been a pattern for him for several years of either extremely long delayed payment with varied excuses or no payment at all. After letting Leon know of this situation, he decided it best to not allow him to participate on the board in discussion or the BST. Scott Brockelman Auctions SB1 |

Thanks for the heads up, Scott.
IF anyone on this forum reneges in an auction or here on the forum, and I find out about it, they won't be here. Why would we want someone who reneges on our forum? This is a separate situation, than the other thread, about who to allow on the forum. I am watching the other thread to get members thoughts. On reneging I don't need to get other opinions :) And my only pick up from the Dallas Card Show. . |
Well, your pick up is a good one. Nice card!

That's a nice Willie you have there......

But seriously, thanks for pointing out this out as well as the BST email scammer situation. And it is a good thing the auction houses can help each other out in non-paying customer scenarios too. Brian |
Ok, that opening line was the funniest thing I have read on this board in a long long time. Touché.

I was just informed that a similar thing is happening to me.
I am still getting the details, but it sounds like someone is emailing users through this platform and trying to negotiate pretending to be me. Please tread carefully. I’m usually happy to communicate via email/text so if you’d like to confirm it’s me through another means please try that and if this fraudster is reluctant to do so, that should serve as a red flag. |
The a-holes email address is: m3619441@gmail.com. He went by the name Mark.

Perhaps Leon can institute a system whereby a members identity could be verified via a check mark program. We can even color code it depending on verifiability. Let's say a blue checkmark is the highest level.
Leon can even charge a fee....let's say 8 dollars a month, to prove said person is actually that person. I mean, who in their right mind would pay 8 dollars a month, if they weren't actually that person??? I don't see how that could possibly go wrong. ........oh wait!.......... :) |
Seriously though, it's crappy what's going on. I'm surprised this thread isn't getting more responses.

As for checkmarks, might have to see how that works out for the social media giant first. I think it could be akin to letting Net54 id's be other people's names. I think I need a refreshment, in 1907. . |
The checkmark thing worked well when it was free but only available to people who could actually be verified.
When they made it open to anyone with a few bucks a month.... It went poorly. |
I've already purchased the handle "TheRealREAAuctions" on both twitter and Net54. Now everybody please send your consignments directly to my storage facility in Belize so I may give them the once over.
