If I didn’t have lower grade cards, I wouldn’t have a collection at all. I would rather have the card in hand than spending large amounts of money to have a pristine example of it. It all started when I found a beat to hell Brett rookie at a mall show in the 80’s for $2. I threw the money at the guy and ran out like I had just stole the Mona Lisa. Pretty much the North Star still for how I collect.

yes. in the olden days(pre 2000) I preferred cards with no disfiguring creases in my collection...and trimmed/altered was a no-go.
these days...I've been forced to embrace altered cards as the only responsible way to add cards I want...like this guy! We have seen a major uptick in values/demand for altered/low grade cards as prices on many have skyrocketed out of reach of many. I'm at peace with preferring a reasonably altered card to an ugly card with a #! |

on letter S would keep this card from receiving a number grade, or so I was told by SGC. As such the blue background is a stunner.
