HEY TED Z! Actually Nate Colbert duplicated the feat. In an unbelievable coincidence, he was a little boy who was in attendance at the DH where Stan originally accomplished the feat!

That's pretty cool. Just pulled up the box scores from Nate's historic day on August 1, 1972. Five homers against five different pitchers. 7-9, 5 HR, 13 RBI. Woah.

This performance was insane. After telling Don Zimmer that his back was sore and he might not be able to play that day, Nate Colbert hit a solo shot, two two-run blasts, a three-run dinger and a grand slam before the night was over. And apparently he barely missed another two-run homer when he walked after hitting one in the upper deck just foul of the left field foul pole.

I have never liked cards in the 1949 Leaf set because of the prevalent registration issues. In fact it drives this "tolerant to just about everything in the vintage world" collector nuts to look at their blurry images. Though if they all looked in focus like Ted's middle example, I think I would be a convert.

Hey Brian

As you know, the 1949 LEAF set is a really tough set to complete; and, especially with all the images of the 100+ cards in it perfectly registered.

It's a real challenge (took me many years to complete it with excellent images and correct colors.). Here are some of my favorite cards in my set.

Stan "The Man" Musial in his classic stance. Just a friendly bump before this thread disappears off the front page.

Plus I have a story to tell regarding this 1949 BOWMAN card. It is the very first card in my collection that I had graded.
In 1999, at the Fort Washington Philly Show, I submitted it to PSA to be graded. It came back to me with a tag stating:
"evidence of trimmed".
I spoke to the PSA "honcho", telling him "NO WAY". That this card dates back before anyone thought of "trimming" BB
cards.
He responded: "That's just your opinion..... what counts is our opinion !"

I was mad. At the other end of the showroom was a new Grading Co. (SGC). They graded it, and I was mighty pleased

I'd be very surprised if anyone ever completed anything like a Master Set.

I haven't even found images for some that must exist, and still find images of types that are sort of transitional or maybe just new to me like the on in the original post.
