Mr. Speaker says he would like to join the fun. And since we're on the lookout for orange E94's, these guys say they would more than willing to welcome their orange friend to their home.....

Hello to all! I’m glad to see so many collectors love the E94s. I’ve been enamored by them for many years. One of these days I’ll get around to scanning my (almost) master set but I’m not quite ready yet. Since I hit a brick wall on the dark green Cobb, blue Crawford and violet Lajoie, I haven’t crossed the finish line yet but I still have hopes that I’ll reach it one of these days. My other great hope is that the Vikings win a championship in my lifetime. I saw my first Viking game in 1961 at the old Met and have waited 61 years for that one.
I could write a long winded treatise on the orange E94s and bore everyone to tears but that’s a story for another day.
Stay healthy and thanks for remembering me and my happy obsession with the Close cards. I will begin to enjoy my retirement once the virus slackens and I hope to see you all in Chicago next summer!
Tbob.

Thanks for chiming in Bob, an E94 thread wouldn't be complete without you and good luck on those last 3 to make your Master, quite an accomplishment.

Couple of Greenies to keep things moving.

Great to have you chime in my friend! That's the best E94 run out there for sure.

As a Cambridge MA resident, I'm duty bound to note George Close's place on the city's candy tour.

https://historycambridge.org/self-gu...-in-cambridge/

...and I bet a sharp E94 Cy Young can net more than $25K these days!

Love this thread, fun to see the old school E94 guys post some of their gems. Bob, I think a lot of E94 fans here would like to hear your theory on the Oranges.

Default E94s

favorite set ...
Cobb and Wagner in purple .... scans arent great
Finished this set 5-6 years ago.... seems like purple is fairly rare and orange rarely even seen.. any thought on colors?

Damn those are nice!!! I used to follow this set much more closely than I do now. Purple have always been desirable, for some reason. I honestly think that some colors of some cards appear to be hard to find… only way to know this is by experience and talking to other collectors. I think yellow or gold is also considered a tougher color? I was under the impression most oranges were one of a kind?

Beautiful cards, thanks for posting. I've only been at it a couple of years but IME Orange (there's only one of each although there's rumored to be two Cobbs) > Purple > Gold/Green/Blue > Red/Olive. I lump them together because as Pete mentioned once you start moving up in grade there are specific player/color combinations that are more difficult. It also depends on how many collectors are in the E94 market at the time, plus you just don't see examples come up that often, the last substantial offering was John Esches collection last year.

It wasn't a rumor on the 2 cobbs. I saw a 7 and an 8.....both in PSA holders if I recall. I couldn't believe it either. Tony Arnold showed them to me. Definitely 2 very high end orange cobbs, at least.
