Always size up in set boxes. It’s much easier to fill extra space than jam your fingers in to a box that’s packed too tight. Plus in my experience, those number counts are way off for vintage cards. I’d be shocked if you could fit 700 vintage cards into an “800 ct” box.

And you can buy cardboard "blockers" to soak up the open space as well. I don't use boxes anymore but a dozen valueless waste cards at each end of the vintage set are also a good idea as shock absorbers.
