Thanks Ian. I think of the three SGC 3 Bakers, this was on the lower end, but I’m pleased with the hammer price. It also leaves me with only 7 HOFers left to find for the set. Good luck on your hunt for a Baker!

These monthly smaller auctions are a great source for collectors to fill in sets with single cards that would otherwise be accumulated into big lots in the main auctions. I appreciate the format.
The red Cobb was a 1 and still went over $2500.

The high-profile auctions full of $1000+ cards are great to look at. But barring some key card that I NEED to have, they just aren't realistic for me to consider at this point in my collecting. The auction Sunday night had at least 50 cards, of HOF players, in mainstream sets, that were in a realistic price range for more low-mid budget collectors. For me it was just a matter of which ones to target. While I understand how it could seem underwhelming to some, I loved it.

I always look forward to see what REA has in any auction. I did not win a single lot for the first time in years with them. There were a lot of cards (mainly t206s) that I bid on in this auction but nothing was a MUST have for my collecting needs. This was probably the most (numberswise) cards that I have bid on but again nothing was so impressive that I just had to have it. Hopefully next month will be more impressive. I know one card already consigned that I definitely will be bidding on.

It is also smart marketing not to cede that market segment to other AHs if you can use your resources and make a buck or two instead. When I go to a show or take a table at one I will look for stuff I want, stuff I need, and stuff I can profit from, and I don't turn down the last just because the items aren't in my wheelhouse. I bought a pile of wrestling cards at a paper fair recently. I don't know squat about 1920s wrestlers but I know I can make a profit on them if I get them at the right price, which I did, and I am. Same idea.

I don't know . . . . if you are the recognized gold standard for selling quality steak in [INSERT NAME OF BIG CITY], is it good for your brand to start selling lesser cuts of steak at a reduced cost just to satisfy a market? I am sure people smarter than me study this at business school. If people still go to business school these days.

I think the big risk is people "forgetting" about you because you aren't front and center all the time. If you only run quarterly auctions, for instance, I think you run the risk of people just kind of tuning out and not remembering when to check back in. If you run 4 big auctions a year quarterly, and you run smaller monthly auctions in between, people are always coming back to your site, they are always checking to see what is running/open, and I think it makes it easier to pump up and market your bigger events.
