You really can't look at recent sales with this card. Eye appeal drives the price.

Indeed. The competition for the nicer looking ones gets heated and makes them behave in the market very different from the average looking examples. The boldly colored and dead-centered 3 that sold in Heritage for 162k all in some ways back is a prime example of this.

Of course then you have aspects such as unique provenance that could distinguish an example and add more bids at auction.

And Ted, if you take that seat and sell that signed one, holla at your boy!

Wow, great looking card for a 1.5 grade. It looks like there is a small crease at the top down to his hat. Anything else that would have caused the low grade given the look of the card?

It's funny I actually submitted it thinking it was trimmed going for the "A" When it came back with a number I ran back to PSA and asked them to double check it and showed them what I thought the problem was. They maintained it was fine so I have to assume the area I saw as trimmed is actually damaged (which I can sorta see) if you look at the top border on the right side it starts to waiver and run down hill. I thought that was trimming, but as a I look more closely it is, hard to use the right word, but sort of smooshed in. There's no additional creasing (the wrinkle you spotted gets even lighter as it goes but does get down to about his eyebrows it is not visible on the reverse) but the paper has a bit of a rolled look to it like that section got bumped hard by something.

So I went from arguing that it didn't deserve a number to wondering why it didn't get a better one lol. No pleasing some people.

Scott Beautiful 1.5---great looking card---I look forward to the auction---I sold a psa 2 at the National---had a multi crease 1 offered to me at 25K--but way too many creases for me.---I still have a SGC 3--Maybe next year at AC

Thanks Don, I know every auction company says it about their cards, but man for a 1.5 this is a stunner. Even if it was bumped a grade to 2.5 it would still be a gorgeous card for the grade.

Default I did post in the BST correct??

I started this thread as a simple WTB thread. My understanding of forum rules is that nothing but responses by those considering selling said card(s) belong here!?

If you (plural) want to have a conversation about the 52 Mantle, there are appropriate places to start that and have at it. Please keep it out of my BST thread.

I am actively buying and selling vintage sports cards graded and raw. Feedback as a buyer: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=297262

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.
