So, are you saying if these cards weren't slabbed they likely wouldn't have greened up, Jeff, or do they eventually green up anyway?

Hi Dale,
I believe those early cards turned green because of the chemicals that were used to make those shiny cards back in the early 1990's. Over time I've heard they turned green and it wasn't because of sunlight or humidity, nothing was going to stop them from changing colour. I've read how people have recently opened brand new and sealed boxes of 1996 Topps Chrome Basketball and the cards came out of the pack green. After 1997 Topps changed the chemical process of how Chrome cards are manufactured, that's why you don't see any green 1998 Chrome Vince Carter RC's!

I would never pay up for a pre-1998 card from these issues because of the instability of the dyes. They are all going to go bad eventually and a lot of people are going to be left holding FUGLY expensive cards. I found one a dollar bin last National and picked it up for the heck of it; I suspect there will be more in there.

If you're going to post the same questions over and over again on 3+ different message boards, at least put them in the proper forums each time. Greening doesn't apply to baseball cards from the 1945-1979 time frame.
