I think 1997 was the first year they made game used cards. So if that’s the first basketball game used card, signed by MJ, numbered to 23 I can see why it went that high. If you think that’s a lot wait until the next one sells.

So you see all these iconic RC basketball/baseball/football/hockey will eventually be all owned by the rich for showing off/competeing with their rich buddy to see who got better collection.

yup.. that was the first yr Upper Deck came out with that gimmick. Apparently those few top bidders know this fact even it is not mentioned in the auction description of such "rarity". That tells me those bidders who compete for the card know what they are doing and not just by an "investment firm".

Seems like a lot of people complaining about these huge prices for modern cards...so what if it is only 10 years old and worth more than a card 100 years old. These people like to collect players that they have seen play and know. Not some person that died before their father was born. They don't know about the history of the sports and only care about now....you all need to really start worrying when they start getting educated and realizing the history and start buying the vintage up at crazy prices and making it harder for you to get what you want...Rob Groh the person that just bought the PSA 9 Mantle for 5.2M just started collecting 6 months ago. He started buying only modern basketball. He learned and is now purchasing the greats in Baseball...

You thought vintage was high now just wait until more of these new bloods start invading your area of collecting.
