1946 Parade Sportive Jackie Robinson; 2 offers?

Parade Sportive was a local Montreal radio show that featured athlete interviews ranging from 1943-1947. Paul Stuart was the host. My understanding is that the premiums were both given away directly by the show and inserted with a local newspaper. They are mostly of local teams and athletes but there are a few international boxers as well. Sizes and formats vary and some have printing on the backs, including checklists. A particular premium was issued for a short time to promote the show's subject matter but there were multiple versions issued of some subjects. I have a list somewhere that is more detailed but I am not able to access it right now. I will try from work tomorrow. My recollection is that the Robinson premiums were issued in 1946 while he was there. Here are a few more:

There are at least 15 variations in the format of the pages on which pictures were printed, with most baseball photos appearing in at least two or three different formats.

Parade Sportive has almost twice as many basic hockey photos as baseball, some 73 different plus three spelling variations. Boxing has 20 different basic photos, with wrestling a little more than half of boxing. Parade Sportive also has tennis, ice skating, skiing, motocross, cycling, track and field, racquetball, ping pong, and golf pictures. Again, all Parade Sportive photos can appear on various different formatted pages (up to 15 different types) including as pages of pamphlets it issued.

Parade Sportive voiced by Paul Stuart was a radio show broadcast from 1944 to 1948 on four Montreal area stations, most of which were owned by newspapers. In addition to having pictures inserted in various newspapers to promote the radio show, they were available as souvenirs at the stations and were sold by series or in larger groups. By 1946, over individual 70,000 complementary ones had been given away with many more sold.

I am looking for any versions of the pamphlet called "La Revue de la Parade Sportive" in which various photos were periodically run. Let me know if you have one, or at least the covers. Maybe you can provide scans?

Quick reply, more to come. Two of the 1946 Montreal Royals (Royaux) championship baseball team Parade Sportive releases with Jackie Robinson. They are both on about the same size sheet. While the same photos are used, they are of different sizes. Though the "Parade Sportive / Paul Stuart" logos are the same, there is variation in the wording next them. Obviously one has an advertisement and the other doesn't. Parade Sportive developed about 15 variations in its background formats across the couple of hundred different varieties of its sports photos. It is not uncommon to find as least three different background formats used for the same photo.





Will try to post the rest of the pictures sought as soon as time permits, but knew most of you wanted to see the Robinson's.

I think "about the same size" is an overstatement, so here's a scan of the two 1946 Montreal Royals (Royaux) Championship Baseball Team Parade Sportives next to each other so you can see the relative size. Note, both refer to radio broadcasts on radio station CHLP with the left one indicating "C.H.L.P. vendiedis soirs 7 h. 30 p.m. jeudis 11-11 30 a.m." (Friday evenings 7:30 p.m. Thursdays 11-11:30 a.m.) and the right one, "CHLP tous les dimanches midis 12 30 p.m." (every Sunday noon 12:30 p.m.). [CHLP was a French-language Canadian radio station located in Montreal, Quebec which operated from December 31, 1932 to November 15, 1957.] The ad is for Auvents "Acme" (Acme Yawnings with "toutes sortes" = "of all kinds" in the lower left).

Here's a couple more, Paul Calvert and Clay Hopper. I misspelled one name in my baseball list above. It should read Roy Partlow (not Portlow). He came to the Royals from the Hometown Grays and Philadelphia Stars at the same time Jackie Robinson arrived from the Kansas City Monarchs. In the 1946 Championship team photos above, Partlow is at the far left and Robinson at the far right.





I'm still looking for complete copies of Parade Sportive publications entitled, PHOTOS / "CANADIENS" 1945-46 (the original edition, not the "2e Edition") and any volume of La Revue de la PARADE SPORTIVE. Looking to buy, but scans will get me through for the moment.

FWIW the Maurice Richard is like the Robinson in hockey terms: the major star's card issued long before his accepted RC. But this one was while he was on the Canadiens not the juniors.

From the scan, your Maurice Richard's picture is one of the best I've seen in my recent searches. In 2013, this thread focused on $170.000 being asked for a Jackie Robinson Parade Sportive. Articles from 10 years ago acknowledged the Maurice Richard's as the most prized of all of the hockey ones. Several said it was going for around $200 but that it was second to Jackie Robinson as his fans had made the Robinson worth about 3 times as much ($600). My searches also found that there are a lot more Jackie Robinson's than Maurice Richard's, regardless of the format in which they were printed.

I know you've shown it before, but thanks for showing the Maurice Richard's again. I hope we have some other hockey out there. I'd like to go into details about the entire set of Parade Sportive with Paul Stuart pictures. With the variations, there may be well over 500-600 different ones. Finishing the research would give an answer.

There's a whole history of how the Montreal Canadiens initially refused to allow live broadcast of home games in 1943-45, of how radio got around that by live broadcasting away hockey games especially from Boston. When live home game broadcasts finally started, the radio announcer was hit in the face by a hockey puck.

The 1946 Montreal Royaux became the first championship baseball games to be broadcast live from Montreal and more.

P.S. Paul Stuart was a Canadian featherweight champion boxer in the thirties and used his acumen as a sportsman to promote all sports in the Montreal area.
