I’ve been shocked how much the Dietsche batting has shot up on some recent sales too! The Dietsche ones see more sales because of more supply, wonder where either of the Wolverines would be at now if at auction (Both Wolverines exceedingly tough)?

Beauty in eye of the beholder, but curious what makes it ugly compared to the others?

as you say...beauty is in the eye...my eye doesn't like the seemless as much as it likes the others. Maybe it's all the words below Ty that aren't terribly pleasing to my eye? I find an image filling the whole card more appealing than all those "words!"

Agree Orlando, the Seamless image just screams Bad Ass to me! That man came to the park to play some ball that day!

Some sort of background might make it appear less stark and more appealing. But all that dirt on his pants? Wow factor.

I basically agree with your list. I would just switch around the Wolverine Portrait and the Dietsche Fielding.
To me, the Seamless Steel Tubes is clearly the best of the group. I love the unique pose - Cobb standing there in full uniform holding his bat in one hand and his glove in the other. It is also, by far, the scarcest of them all. 1. Seamless Steel Tubes 2. Dietsche Cobb Fielding 3. Wolverine News Portrait 4. Wolverine News Fielding 5. HM Taylor (Batting) 6. You'd have to like it a lot before owning one to shell out the $ needed to get one.

I'm embarrassed to say that I once had a nice copy of the Cobb fielding (and batting) postcards that I sold for under $2000 each. If the fielding one gets to $100k it will vault to near the top of my worst (unfortunately not the top).sales ever.

I haven't had the fielding pose to regret selling yet, but I think I sold my batting pose for about $350 and one of the 1907 team postcards for $250.

I sold Hal my '25 Gehrig Exhibit for 10k. I think it resides in a 6 holder now. It was a 5 when I had it though it was obtained raw from a Mastro Auction, for 2700'ish in '97-'98. I think it was described as NRMT-MT when I bought it so I was a little disappointed in the grade.
It was a record sale to Hal at the time though, so I Have that going for me !! ![]()

The worst trade:

Ha! That's a good one Jay.
Some may not know but it wasn't until the later part of the 1980s that the hobby interest started in earnest with autograph collecting. Autographs were free at the early Nationals. Lines were not that long, but Lou Avon was always on one. At some shows the charge for player's autographs were $2.00. Duke Snider signed for free and didn't have that much action. When Mantle was featured his rate zoomed up to $10. But his customers waiting line was short and often there was no line and he was left idle. |

Yeah, I remember when dealers used to call it 'defacing' the cards to get them signed.

The results in this auction will be another test of the current strength of the hobby. There have been unprecedented dollars spent in the February Heritage auction, REA, Memory Lane, and Weiss. There is another big Heritage auction ending shortly. A big last few days for LOTG should eliminate all questions about how strong the hobby is today.

And while we're commenting on the aesthetics of these cards, am I the only one who finds the Dietsche Cobb Fielding to be incredibly goofy? And I have an SGC 3.5, but every time I look at it I wonder, "how did Ty feel about wearing a uniform that looks all white?"
