I was told the same thing, and also to never get an expensive rookie card autographed! I'm glad some people didnt listen.
I've been lucky enough to pick up 2 large TTM collections from the 30s to the early 50s, with envelopes and dates, as well as notes on how long responses took, and who didnt send cards backs. Sadly, 2 who didnt respond in the 50s were Jackie R and Joe D! It would have made for quite the collection! However the random and obscure cards, as well as vintage ballpoint not rushed autos, are always a thing of beauty, even if the player is still signing today.
