Huggins and Scott
What did you guys think of the prices for signed vintage cards in the Huggins and Scott auction. Prices to me seemed higher than ever especially on the 1941 Playball. I kept getting outbid and wouldn't meet what I considered the outrageous prices. Only bargain was a 1961 Fleer Cochrane but most likely because it was SGC

Absolutely incredible prices. I think the 33 Goudey ott portrait fell a little shy having a JSA and being in pencil. Otherwise probably another 25% boost.
Some of the curmudgeons here on the board will balk at the price of the Greenburg, but he isnt getting any cheaper! |
I thought the Greenberg was quite high. I needed an upgrade but not at that price. 39 Play ball Greenbergs have gone for much less but I guess the 1941s are rarer

He isnt signing any more of them! Signed cards and HOF cards have been steadily increasing. Even the 39s have been heading higher.
Look at signed 52 mays, they were around 2k, now 8k and hes alive, and barely come for sale. |
So I guess the signed T206 fiasco has scared away no one?

I was told the same thing, and also to never get an expensive rookie card autographed! I'm glad some people didnt listen.
I've been lucky enough to pick up 2 large TTM collections from the 30s to the early 50s, with envelopes and dates, as well as notes on how long responses took, and who didnt send cards backs. Sadly, 2 who didnt respond in the 50s were Jackie R and Joe D! It would have made for quite the collection! However the random and obscure cards, as well as vintage ballpoint not rushed autos, are always a thing of beauty, even if the player is still signing today. |

Sheesh! I think that's his best pose and would have thought 10k! |
Mine that sold in REA had severe back damage, which I think contributed to the lower price. The market for signed 33 Goudey commons is way down, but I think the market for HOF players has held steady for the most part. The $132k that my Ruth 181 sold for is probably an anomaly, but otherwise I would expect similar results if the auction were held today.

I think Doc Steen was focused on larger pictures, but we are lucky that he included M101-2s in his pursuits!
