Considered the right tackle too but his positioning for a pulling sweep doesn't like right to me either. I think you've nailed it with Goldberg, Arthur. Great call! The position (BB) stands for blocking back ... someone in the backfield who's primary position is blocking.

I never thought Hinkle was the ball carrier - as the fullback, I thought it was feasible that he may lead a sweep. He's listed in PFR at 5'11 202, and I just never imagined him as small given the stories of him battling Nagurski, but you all have better eyesight than me as Hinkle didn't even play in the game. In terms of Packers rushing, Johnston was 4-30, Blood 3-16, Bruder 11-30? or 4-10?, Goldenberg 2-5, Laws 2-2, Hutson 1-0, Herber 1 - (-12)
Here's the box score: Last edited by TanksAndSpartans; 08-17-2018 at 10:32 PM. |

John, thank you. I had come across the box score at one point but like a fool I didn't copy and save it. Then on subsequent attempts I couldn't relocate it so I really appreciate you hunting it down.
I wonder why they have two entries for Bruder? I think we can safely eliminate Hutson and Herber as I'm pretty sure this play is going to result in positive yardage. I also think I'm fairly comfortable with the blocker being Goldenberg, which eliminates him from contention. That leaves Johnston, Blood, Bruder, and Laws. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A pretty difficult task and definitely beyond the scope of my abilities. Arthur

Al, glad I could help. The 30s are one of my favorite decades, so this has been a lot of fun for me. I'm awful with faces. Jeff posted an image of some players in the Mayo set once and I think I got them all wrong.
Let me know how things go with your PFRA registration - I think you'll get your login. If not, I can start a thread. I'm thinking the guy who wrote the book can at least give a thumbs up/down on Blood. I once got into a good discussion with him on Red Dunn. I wanted to know how he wound up throwing so many passes given box scores listed him as QB/BB given that the era's other top passers like Friedman were listed at TB. He knows the Packers pretty well. Here's the book: https://www.amazon.com/Vagabond-Half.../dp/1434830306 Carl, I think that's a photo of Nagurski in a Rams helmet ![]() Finally, it put a smile on my face to see who Hinkle's replacement at FB was: Last edited by TanksAndSpartans; 08-18-2018 at 09:07 AM. |

I talked to Ralph via pm on the other board and he said it didn't look like Blood to him. If you want me to just post the image over there I can - let me know.
