Why doesn't Harper and other players who face a shift learn to slap the ball the other way? It would be good for a single or double every time. It amazes me that hitters keep hitting the ball into the shift, where their batting averages have to be abysmal.

If you are a major league hitter, learn to capitalize on what the defense gives you. And if you can't hit the ball the other way, take more batting practice and learn. They pay you a gazillion dollars a year, so put in the extra time and develop the skill.

True, the same could be said about any statement made by someone to further their own interests. I wouldn't put much stock into a statement by a lawyer saying what a great guy his client is either.
