Look at the printing quality of the '60s cards and compare it with these. It's almost like Topps was doing laser printing in the '60s and decided to revert back to dot-matrix for the late '70s. Or it could be the photographers were only provided Kodak Instamatics to take the picture. Who knows.

1978 was my first set - in fact the first cards I ever owned came as a small uncut panel in a spring 1978 edition of Dynamite Magazine. I've always felt the images in the set were, generally, some of the best of that era. Here are a few favorites (and I have a lot).
First the Joy of the Game - Rice, Simmons and Lopez, all just looking like they're happy to be there.
