Are there any 1978 Topps cards that you prefer?

Doug Ault is my favorite, with many/any of the better action shots coming in a close 2nd (Milan, Randle, Healy, Jackson). If only his career had taken a different path, what an amazing card that would be today.
HOF wise, I might lean towards Murray because I love the trophy cards, but Reggie is a great one and I have always really liked the Rod Carew for some reason. The AS badge doesn't hurt for sure and I agree, one of the better Topps used, although I liked all of them.Attachment 287881 |

I really love the set...first one I collected as a kid. Even helped me learn cursive. Murray, Rice, Reggie, and Guidry! But not Kingman!!

Of course the Reggie is a classic. I also liked the Mick - Mickey Rivers.
Ever notice how many of the Yankee cards were action shots taken from the first base dugout side? - Jackson (2), Chambliss, Rivers, Nettles, Lyle (2), Guidry, Munson, Hunter, Gullett, White. |

This one is my favorite 1978 card just because it reminds me of both the 1982 Topps Seaver All-Star card and a specific Christy Mathewson photo - a copy of which I have been searching for a number of years.
Does anyone remember the picture I mean? There as several of Christy in his 'warm-up coat' - but the one I'm looking for is like these two in that it appears to be a cold windy day causing a kind of worn expression on his face. Attachment 288140 Attachment 288141 |

Look at the printing quality of the '60s cards and compare it with these. It's almost like Topps was doing laser printing in the '60s and decided to revert back to dot-matrix for the late '70s. 1978 was my first set - in fact the first cards I ever owned came as a small uncut panel in a spring 1978 edition of Dynamite Magazine. I've always felt the images in the set were, generally, some of the best of that era. Here are a few favorites (and I have a lot).
First the Joy of the Game - Rice, Simmons and Lopez, all just looking like they're happy to be there. |

The Brett for just being a great image of the future hall of famer at a young age The White for being a good action shot with Fisk coming up out of his crouch as the ball is put into play The Ault for having a unique perspective as well as Munson behind the plate, looking like he's about to lift his mask to spit The Cruz, for capturing a speedster contemplating whether to go The Collins for the interesting play of light and shadow in the batting cage The Chiles for the nice silhouette effect (like a number of other Twins cards like Kusick and Ford) The Coleman just because And the Garner for Chuck Tanner barking something in the background |

I agree with Bob, the Murray is my favorite 78. I can't help buying them when I see them cheap either so I have a few now.
