curious...what is wrong with it that you see? not very familiar with either autograph.

Compare them to others online, I just looked at the ones on the PSA site. (Lets not go down that road eh, I know they're not perfect)
Oddly , it's more a question of what if anything is right about them. Even to me they seemed off, and after comparison they seem worse. You guys must be teaching me something. Steve B |

I am certainly no fan of JSA... or any other TPA, for that matter.
But the ball is good. Last edited by David Atkatz; 07-25-2017 at 12:29 PM. |

David, Are you agreeing with the Gehrig and DiMaggio autographs?

Yes.

David is much more knowledgeable than me when it comes to Gehrig's autograph, but the DiMaggio is definitely authentic.

Chapter 10 of why I don't spend big on autographs. I didn't like them, but if David and Chris do I've just learned something. Steve B |

Me too, because I didn't like either one of them....Why is the DiMaggio sig so mangled? His sigs always appear to be very clean, just me though... Also, there appears to be a dot above his first name as if he was signing Jim instead of Joe. Just looks really odd to me....

That's 'cause it's signed "J. DiMaggio," as he did in 1937. (When this ball was most likely signed.)

David, the dot is on top of the name, not at the bottom, and also it is an extended first name signature, not just an abbreviated J...I still think the sig is not right.....Also, the Gehrig is very questionable IMO

The DiMaggio is the one I'm mainly referring to..
|

It's not a dot in Dimaggios name. It's part of the "i" in D"i"maggio which he dropped later on to sign just Dmaggio

I'm talking about the dot over his first name....

I've seen a few early DiMaggio autos signed just J, and the . is in a different place each time, with this one certainly being within specs.

I give up, holy cow! You can clearly see an extension of the pen after the letter J. It's not just a J with a dot, but there is obvious writing after the letter J. Life's too short....

What you are seeing is the long beginning stroke of the J. It starts, shoots to the left and up.

Kevin are you including the stuff in the black box also or just the red box? I don't know if the DiMaggio is real but it is ugly to me.

10 emails? Well, that clinches it, then. You win.

The bottom line is that the DiMaggio is authentic and I find it to be a very cool sig.

To me the whole autograph looks like J. Dimaggio in the red box and no I would not buy it.

I agree, and still don't like the Gehrig auto either....

What you think is the "J" in the red box is actually the "D." Take another look.

always puzzling how the same people always cite support they've received from people who don't want to post. And in this case, an opinion about an autograph? The silent majority!!!!!!

I can see what you are saying. So the Dimaggio signature is the whole thing I have very roughly outlined in red?

For Christ's sake... Have you ever even seen a vintage DiMaggio signature? The horizontal loop you think is the "D" is the loop on the "M." The red box is cutting the bottom of the "D" off. And that big bold dot is over the "i," just to the right of the "D." Sorry, man, but you don't know squat about DiMaggio's signature.
Mr. Zip... Chris... Would you explain to this guy which letter is which. |
#39
|
||||
|
||||
Yes. That's it. For some reason DiMaggio was trying to avoid signing on the circular label.

Damn. Writing with a mouse looks like crap, but works.

The "D' in Dimaggio looks like a "J". But it isn't. It is a "D".

At the end of the day Kevin, these are all opinions. However, I will say that I TRUST certain opinions (Chris, David's and Shelly's) when it comes to Mantle and DiMaggio especially.
Just as in the same way I would trust the opinions of Ted Williams about hitting, Bill Bellichick on coaching and Kobyiashi's on how to eat.

My biggest objection on the DiMaggio is there appears to be an extended amount of writing after the letter J. It's not just a letter J, but there is clear indication of extended ink after it. Also, the Gehrig to me doesn't look right. The large loops of the letters L and G run in to each other, almost touching they are so close, and some other letters are funny looking. This will be my last post, life is way too short. Pertaining the last poster's comments about Chris and David, yes, they are very experienced and their opinion has been clearly stated. But there have been several opinions that agree with me on the concerns of authenticity....The end, thanks..
