Of the two OP mentioned, I'd go with the 1941 Play Ball. The year of .406, and his first full color card, you can't go wrong. Otherwise, I like the 1954-56 Topps, and the 1949 Leaf.

I love the 51 bowman, 54 Wilson franks, 56 topps. But my favorite is this one:

I think the '41 Playball, being his .406 year, and the '49 Leaf, with such a stern look. It basically screams the "young idealist" then "grizzled war vet" dichotomy.
