I enjoyed it too, and I didn't think he sounded all that bad Steve.
Thanks for the link. Larry

No, not bad at all. Very very sharp and piercing smart. Just though he sounded like a much older man than he was.

Youtube is recommending a bunch of old interviews I'd never encountered before. He's Cobb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqnH5BrRWnk
I can now say that I learned how to pronounce Rube Waddell's name from Ty Cobb. Didn't know that the accent is on the last syllable. |

Is it me, or were men more articulate and genuine back then? By comparison, it's painful to listen to some modern day athletes being interviewed.

Gehrig was an Ivy League educated man and my understanding is he was considered a clear cut above the typical ball player in regards to business acumen and public relations savvy. I don't think it was dramatically different then. Meaning, there were athletes who could offer intelligent and insightful thoughts and opinions, unintelligible knuckleheads, and a vast array in between then and now.

Thank you for posting it. Enjoyed listening to it. He sounds classy even when he spoke. One of the all time greats.

I agree Sam. Listen to a Ty Cobb interview, or read some of his quotes. Their vocabulary just seems more advanced than your average person (not just athlete) in 2017. Cobb was EXTREMELY intelligent, but he didn't go to college.
