I like this thread so much I am stretching it a bit to show this painting. Although not from the 19th century, it depicts A G Spalding from the famous Warren cabinet pose. Not sure who painted or when, but it will have to serve as my Warren cabinet for now. I got it in a Hunt auction, which described it as possibly King Kelly.

One more painting, also not from 19th century, but entitled "an old timer at the bat", by Griswold Tyng, a student of Howard Pyle. It was likely painted about 1910 to 1920. I like to think the catcher's mask, which is featured is somehow connected to James Tyng. If anyone knows anything about where this appeared, or a connection between the artist and James Tyng, I would love to hear about it. I have seen his work as calendars and magazine illustration.
