The Sporting News awarded an MVP award to someone in each league until WW2 and it was recognized as a major award/accomplishment. Might be referring to that if he won any (which I don't know off the top of my head if he did or not.)

2 awards....
The main precursor to the MVP award was called "The League Award" given in 1922-1929.
Gehrig won this award in 1927. As Steve pointed out above, he also won the Sporting News version in 1931. It appears the 1933 Goudey was referring to these 2 awards that Lou had won. Mike Last edited by vthobby; 02-10-2016 at 07:38 PM.
