That photo of him in 1962 with Carrigan does not look like a man who would live 23 more years.

And that Kreindler is probably my favorite painting of his, right up there with the Matty.

I guess everybody knows the story of how Tris Speaker, then manager of Cleveland in the early 1920's, persuaded his management to offer Joe Wood, his old teammate from Boston days who had long ago blown out his arm, a job in the outfield; hence, some late cards of him, like my E120, show him in a fielding position with a Cleveland caption. To me, it is a great story of loyalty.
