Cool Smokey Joe stuff David! A while ago I came across a vintage pencil drawing of Wood from his early years. It's one of my favorite pieces - looks like a 20 year old Joe is looking out at you across 100 years! |

I know I am aging myself, but I remember that Joe Woods son used to set up a booth at the old Willow Grove show and its' successor at Ft. Washington. I think he has now passed as well but, as I had booth not far from his, talked to him a number of times. Great stories, but one I remember was long after he had thrown his arm out Tris Speaker, who was managing the Indians at the time and of course a former teammate of Joe's, got him a contract playing the outfield. I wonder if you see much of that type of friendship and loyalty in the major leagues anymore. Hmm. John
