Hello!

Hi All,
I am a new forum member and just wanted to introduce myself.
I have had an interest in early baseball history since my Little League days. As a lover of history in general and having played a lot of baseball growing up, naturally I was drawn to the great history of America's pastime. Early on I had a specific interest in the Philadelphia Athletics early dynasty with its $100,000 Infield and HOF filled roster, but as I got older my attention turned to those early Red Sox championship clubs, most notably the 1912 team. I grew up a Red Sox fan and as a youngster met Smokey Joe Wood, one of the legends of early baseball history. Since then I have tried to accumulate most of Smokey Joe's Red Sox cards including the T207, T202, 1914-15 Cracker Jacks and elusive M116.
I look forward to conversing with all of you and happy collecting!

Cheers,
PJC

Thanks for the welcome HRBAKER!
I still have the same T205 Baker card I bought with $ saved from my newspaper delivery route when I was 11! :)

Got a bit of a Smokey Joe thing going myself. Cool that you met him. Never had the opportunity. Welcome to Net54.

David, love how that spilled Coors rolled right up to the edge and just sat there.
Mighty polite of it.

A gag item, Jeff. Plastic foam. Always good for a double-take. A monument to those wasted days of youth.

Welcome to Net54 PJC! I assume you've listened to the audio of Joe Wood on The Glory of Their Times? You'll like it. Side story, I sold a 15 CJ to Joe's son (or grandson) back in 1980. It would probably grade a 6 today. But I still have that $30.

Welcome!

Thank you

Thanks for the nice welcome boys!
Cool Smokey Joe stuff David! A while ago I came across a vintage pencil drawing of Wood from his early years. It's one of my favorite pieces - looks like a 20 year old Joe is looking out at you across 100 years!

Joe Wood

I know I am aging myself, but I remember that Joe Woods son used to set up a booth at the old Willow Grove show and its' successor at Ft. Washington. I think he has now passed as well but, as I had booth not far from his, talked to him a number of times. Great stories, but one I remember was long after he had thrown his arm out Tris Speaker, who was managing the Indians at the time and of course a former teammate of Joe's, got him a contract playing the outfield. I wonder if you see much of that type of friendship and loyalty in the major leagues anymore. Hmm. John
