That does look a little rough for a 4. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see it listed on ebay with "nice card for the grade" in the description.

It looks like the serial numbers on both PSA examples shown are very low numbers. So, the cards were graded very early in PSA's existence, and they likely were more lenient with grading. If the cards were resubmitted now, they probably come back as 2's.

funny there are many ebay listings where the seller states the cards are undergraded because they were very old grades and PSA was more stringent in the beginning and suggest you can get the card re-graded higher possibly..

Default Any listing

stating they were stricter in the beginning is a flat out lie. Both services have many early graded cards that do not fall within their current standards. Many "Merkle" graded SGC cards are no where near the quality they are assigned and would not cross to current SGC standards. PSA is very inconsistent on T206 grading, even more so on the early grades. And even more so on T cards graded 1-4.

I agree. The card in the original post looks like a 2 to me. Except for the registry guys the mantra is always the same, buy the card, not the holder. Don't buy graded cards blindly unless you are only buying a number to get ahead in a game. IF you are playing the number game, then who cares, buy the highest grade you can and win, win, win!!

It's the very rare "It's snowing in summer" variation.

Expertise worth paying for.

Default well

you should see the N162 6's and 7's with nearly the same amount of loss in Heritage's last big auction. Makes me crazier than I already am.
