For me it was the feel and look of the paper itself. Eighty to one hundred year old paper will have a feel to it that is usually sort of smooth. Put the card between your thumb and forefinger. If it feels a bit rough it's probably not old paper. Also, if it lacks all gloss, it's not a good sign. Hope this helps.
