Default 1956 Redlegs Road

Chris,

Thanks and best of luck to you in landing one. 1956 was such a great year for uniforms with Cincinnati going to this, the Cardinals going without the "Birds on the Bat" and Washington opting for the 3-D logo and numbering. The 1956 All Star Game in Washington would have been a sight for the ages.

stopped by an antique store about a mile from the hotel where Carlton stayed on his Jersey trip two years ago and found this. No markings except 3 of 75

base is chipped and it doesn't look new. Looked all over the internet and could not find it anywhere.

Not historically right as the jersey spells out New York

Dave,

Are the 1956 Reds road uniforms of the same flannel material as other uniforms of this era? It could just be the pictures but of the couple I have seen, it appears that the material that makes up the body of the jersey is a bit different. They almost appear to be a double knit polyester. But like I said, maybe it's just the photos. Thanks.

Default 1956 Cincinnati Redleg Uniforms

Chris,

Good eye and you are entirely correct. The 1956 uniforms (home and roads) jerseys and pants were made of a nylon/cotton durene fabric. The road grey fabric was not particularly color fast and those tended to fade, to the point of looking just off white. However, the uniforms collar and placket are lined with flannel material (white for the homes, grey for the roads) and this is very easy to see when they are compared side by side.

The attached photo comes from the rear cover of the 1956 Cincinnati Redlegs Yearbook (Revised Edition)

Picked these up a while back. It is the original Perez Steele artwork from Dick Perez used for the Nellie Fox postcard. The other artwork is the one he first painted but didn't like it so he painted a second one which became the postcard from the Perez Steele set. Also came with the letter he wrote explaining it. From what I understand it was presented to the Fox family and they liked the one with the smiling face so Dick Perez used that one as the postcard. Both of these are 16x20 and on the back you can see the art board and finger prints from Dick and tape marks to make a straight line on the front for the border. It's a piece of Perez Steele history and one of a kind as it is the original artwork.

Small item, for sale soon, but I hadn't seen this before. Bout the size of a Sweet cap pin. Cool W Sox pin. Anyone have more info on it? age, etc. Back is kinda shiny, but I have no reason to think it would be a repro.

Hey Scott.

It's definitely not a repro.

c1959, more common (comparitively) than its Cubs counterpart, IMHO.

Still a neat piece. You should be able to get $15-20 for it.
