Jeff, out of curiosity what do you think it would have brought at an AH??

More, for sure. It's such an incredibly rare and desired card due to the first Cobb appearance on a 'card.' And I believe this is the third one in the past five years which I've seen for sale at an auction either raw or graded. Kevin can confirm this. As for the price, this card wasn't in the right place and it was obviously mislabeled. I was surprised it went as high as it did solely because I didn't think so many people who knew what it was bid on it. I don't know how you guys never seem to miss a card no matter where it is misplaced.

I thought that the PC was worth $3k or so.
This is the third example that I remember being sold individually in the past 10 years. SCP had a PSA Authentic example and Legendary had a raw example. Both examples were extremely nice and appeared to be in the EX to EX/MT range. |

I was thinking $3k too slabbed and in an AH. Was buying for resale so didn't want to go any higher.
I also sold a mid-grade one with my complete set in Goodwin a few years ago. |

Bringing this thread back, wondering if this card ever made it to a well publicized auction? I remember there was one of these rarities that went off at REA.

Glad that you won it, Kevin. Congrats!
I owned one of these at one time in nice condition, traded it for a W601 Detroit premium from 1905 plus some cash, amounted to a total of about $3,500 by my count. Last edited by bcbgcbrcb; 03-02-2015 at 04:31 AM. |

I think it was a great buy. Wish I had found it or at least bid on it. This card would fetch 4-5k going through a AH with a big mailing list. I might in the minority for this statement.. I would rather own a post card with a cancelled stamp on the back and writing, than a clean back. Who needs to get it graded when it has all that. There are some other Cobb 1906 postcards out there which were done as advertisments by local companies. Probally about the same population on them.

Do you have examples of these others from 1906?

Im thinking of a laundry card of the entire team. I bought one years ago from Brian D at National. He is from Michigan and always turns up cool and unusual things.
