I guess the new PSA holders can be tampered with as discussed in this forum:

The font on the flip looks a little off too.

I might add that the fonts are wrong and the four safety "nubs" have been popped. The holder has been opened and another card has been re-inserted along with a re-manufactured flip. |

Was going to put this in another post but should add here. So are all cards by this seller legit? Goes from $10-$20 cards to $5000-$400000 overnight? The Seaver Rookie that he pulled looks different than the one sold in Mile High. Now look at this PSA 8 Mantle 1952 Topps. Thoughts??

The holder is not the new one. Some of the older holders have a shiny silver PSA logo on the flips but without the inlaid "still" hologram. That's what we see on the back of the PSA 10 Joe Montana. Also, the construction of the older holders is entirely different than the new ones. One piece fits inside of another, somewhat similar to the construction dynamics of the Beckett holder. This holder (for the Montana) has two pieces that are sonically sealed along the edge. There's no question it is one of the older holders.

Ok how can you tell from a scan? What are the distinguishing characteristics of the new versus the old holder?

When dealing with pre war purchases I now refer to a second opinion whether the cards are in a PSA holder or raw. |

does not even look exactly the same it should not need an explanation just use your eyes. They are clearly different and sealed completely different and this is easily identifiable in a scan.

Ok then why don't you explain how you can see they are sealed completely different in a scan?

see that the top fits over the bottom piece as opposed to being sealed on the side this is clearly evident in the obverse scans of the cards. Sorry, I can not help you if you can not see this.

it may be tougher to tell based on the style of slab, but i find it not to difficult for psa. please note psa is still returning some cards in the old slabs, guess using up old stock first.
