Wow. Was it a late in life example? It looks terrible. I know he had some sort of deal with B&J that fell through and he sued them...was that just before he passed away or something?

He had a deal and signed thousands of baseballs for them. They took there forged ones and mixed them up. Then they made a deal with GAI and had them all authenticated. Thiis happens to be an authentic one. You had a 30 percent chance of getting a good one.

I believe there was a story in the DiMaggio biography how he signed for B&J and there were cases of signed balls in the B&J warehouse. A day or two after DiMaggio had left, the amount of signed items had mysteriously doubled in the warehouse.

I believe the lawsuit was over signed bats, if I recall correctly.

It's been years since I read it, but the memorabilia fiasco was covered in great detail in Joe DiMaggio: The Hero's Life.

My takeaway was Joe was not someone you wanted to have business dealings with. Of course, I have no sympathy for B&J Collectibles.

Joe was not one you would want to have any dealings with. He was a prick.

Zip, Dimaggio sued them for backing out of the remainder of the contract. Yes they not only doubled but tripled the amount of signed balls. They where very smart. Hire the guy and then sell the rest of there garbage as authentic. He did that with Berra, Koufax and at least a dozen other players.

I was at least ten signings with him. You could not ask for a better signature. That is all you can say nice about him.
