Nice pickups everyone. This is my only pickup, the 1926 Lou Gehrig Portrait Photograph taken just prior to his first World Series. I spent a little more than I wanted to on it, but it's an amazing photo and has the same appeal as most quality Conlons out there. It will go perfect paired up with my 1927 Babe Ruth Portrait shot and even though a similar Gehrig exists from '27, this 1926 Portrait blows the other Gehrig out of the water IMO!

Very nice picture. I considered bidding, but decided against it, as I own the Gehrig portrait, that matches the Ruth, you are referring to. They are both beautiful pictures.

Is that Bugsy Siegel in the last photo? If not, who is it? Looks really familiar to me. Great Ruth family shot, as well.

I was shut out for the most part, but managed to pick up 3 photos. My favorite is this Herman Seid original of Bob Feller, the night of Cleveland's first-ever night game.

I really liked the contrast of the black background against Feller's white uniform and blaring lights. The photographer really got his point across

The other photo I loved (with similar contrast) was this epic image of Satchel Paige, pitching in his Big League debut.

Kinda wish I went harder after this one, given its importance... Did anybody here get it?

Thanks Mark. Yes, both photos are beautiful but I love the large size of the 1926 portrait and the detail seen on his jersey. Taken just before he became a superstar in his prime playing years!

I don't know if you are aware, but Herman Seid was actually trained in photography by Van Oeyen and was his successor as sports photographer at The Cleveland Press. He had some serious chops himself when it came to photography, and to my eye, his "style" in many cases closely resembles Van Oeyen's (not surprising). Sadly, he moved away from sports photography in the 1950's, though he still did human interest and regular news assignments for The Press up to his death in 1980.

Hey mark ya thats bugsy! I have a couple al capone photos and am trying to find more mafia related photos. Its only a 5x7 but still a nice and rare image. Congrats on your pick-ups. How did I know you were gonna add some more gehrig photos to your collection..lol

Thanks, the moment I saw the Matty photo I knew I had to have it. To me it is the most iconic image of him and that's saying a lot!

David, there is a great Dizzy Dean Van Oeyeon photo in Legendary (yes, it is mine) that is gorgeous that you might want to take a look at.

Mark, the Feller is is off the charts, that is a photo that you can hang on your wall and call it art. I wanted the Paige but fell short as My funds were intent on the Matty only.

Also you may be making an incorrect assumption, but they are both 7x9. The Ruth and the one I have were both taken prior to the 1927 WS.

It's a great addition to your collection.
