Eric,

I saw that one too. That is absolutely beautiful.
If I collected all Yankees and not just Gehrig, I would've been all over that one as well.

After starting a thread two years ago trying to gain more knowledge on vintage sports photography I bought 3 wire photos at that time but hadn't done anything in this area since. I finally signed up for RMY this time around and found myself unable to decide what images to focus on. In the end I was glad to make these the first images to my collection since that post:

Musial greeted by Jackie Robinson:

...And a nice Bobby Wallace image:

Hung in on 3 items until the 2 o`clock area. Woke up today winning the 1946 Montreal Royals Robinson composite photo. Hoping to maybe mate it with an auto I`ve seen on the B S T board this past year!

Default RMY Auction

I bid on 8 photos, was the under bidder in 6.
Congrats to Rhys as it seemed to me that realized prices were pretty strong.

Here is my sole win. I really like the composition of this photo of Bob Feller posing for photographers at Cleveland Stadium after returning from the Navy in WWII. This will make a nice complimentary piece to a scored program and ticket stub that I have to Feller's 1st game back. This photo was taken one day before Feller returned the mound, to once again confound major league hitters...

Rapid Robert did not disappoint as he got the win after being gone for 44 months. Some guys just have talent!

Scott that Feller compliments those items well. In an effort to contain myself I decided to go after one photo with any serious intent. I always seem to spread myself too thin in these extravaganzas by courting multiple beauties only to go home alone. I have no idea what time this party ended but I did place my winning bid around closing time (2:00AM PST) and woke up with a keeper and still had money left in my pocket

Mike,
Wow...5am EST!!!
It seems that your winning bid was probably the second to last bid in the auction. I can tell because in the search settings, one of the choices will list photos by most recent bid. Your photo shows up as the second most recent, so you must've been the second to last bid prior to it ending.

Damn! You west coast guys really have the advantage in auctions that end this way.

Great photos everyone. Congrats.

OK Here are my pickups. I don't collect as an investment, so I was more then pleased with the group of Gehrig's I came away with last night. I stayed away from the high dollar ones as none of them really had that special something that spoke to me.
I stayed up to almost 3am, but am very happy with the results.

Some terrific photos in the RMY auction and some very strong prices to match. Four thousand bucks for the Conlon Matty. Oh my! Had a bookmark bid down on it but was blown out of the way early. Went 8 for 22, four baseball related, one football, the rest Americana. Auction looks to have ended right at 2am west coast time. Don't know if the clock counted down - I was distracted - or Rhys just pulled the plug but am glad it finally ended so I could rest up for the hockey game.
Am looking forward to the next RMY auction. Between it and Henry Yee I have switched gears a bit from collecting old cardboard and have picked up a lot of neat photos.

David,
I really love this image of Dizzy Dean, although I did not bid on it.
Nice pickup!

The Conlon Matty is off the charts nice, but that really was a strong realized price!

I love the home run baker, cochrane rookie, DiMaggio, Lou and future wife ,feller and umpire photos. Great pickups fellas. I looked back and certainly some good photos that went cheap(deals to be had). The rookie scooter and rookie elston went for peanuts. I picked up the Ruth 700 hr. The image quality isn't the best but it certainly is historic and have only seen one other. I paid a lil more than I wanted but as I was just told by a fellow collector.. "We always do". And I guess that is pretty spot on! Ha!

I love the original photos from the old football cards - great pick-up!!!

Also love those contest beauties - nothing wrong with today's definition of 'beauty', but loved those Marilynesque women with a little meat on their bones.

Scott,
It would be pretty cool if you could find a copy of one the pictures the photographers pictured took. You would have a nice set.
Congrats,
Mark

Lots of cool Gehrig's for your collection Mark!
Finding the Feller photo that you described would really be neat. I'll have to keep my eye out for one.

Some great pickups guys! Congrats!

If anybody here picked up this photo from last month's auction (that I unfortunately missed due being out of town) and might be interested in selling, please PM me!
