I thought Joe West did a fine job. He missed only a couple calls all night and they went both ways (some for Boston, some for Detroit).

Buster Olney reported after the game that the Red Sox were frustrated. They couldn't read Sanchez, at times taking out their frustrations on home plate umpire Joe West. Buster continued to explain how some of the players viewed replay of the suspect bad calls and came to the conclusion that the right calls were made. Shane Victorino, for example, (after watching replay of his at bats) was reported to say "a couple of those that I thought he got wrong, he got right". The Red Sox seemed to disagree with not only Joe West at home, but also the 1st & 3rd base umpires on partial swings. It began to get old after awhile.

It was a pretty intense game to watch, looking forward to game 2.

Very exciting postseason so far...definitely the best four teams IMO.

I enjoy watching good pitching...that's baseball at it's best! I'm sure we will see some offense sooner rather than later from these clubs. Far too talented lineups for these teams not to eventually hit.

Whoever makes it to the Series, it should be a great matchup!

Last night shows what type of character the Red Sox and their fans are. Nothing but cry babies, they booed and chanted a**hole at the ump when he was actually making correct calls. Or they chanted steroids for peralta but cheered for Ortiz.

I'd rather not make the postseason, then be embarrassed like the Sox's were last night.

What do hemorrhoids and a Yankees cap have in common?

Eventually, every A-hole gets one.

After the last two Tiger games, the starting staff is going into today's game with a lot of confidence, not good news for the Red Sox.

Better for one game than a whole season.

Really?

You rather play a whole season and not make the playoffs than endure one one-hit game in the playoffs after having already won one playoff series?

That is certainly an interesting take.

I could care less who wins the series but come on.

I can see how you would feel that way...probably reminds you of how the Yankees felt when they were utterly embarrassed by Arizona in 2001...better they never even made the postseason than look so stupid. Two games in a row to start the series getting schooled by Schilling and Johnson...humiliating.

Probably better for you to just watch the Yankees highlights from 2013...a year long retirement party topped with a giant helping of fraud, childishness, epic selfishness and infighting.

Also sounds like the 2011-2012 Red Sox.
