The cutter can cut a curve by accident.

The curved caption is because the plates were laid out with transfers. If the transfer gets creased or torn during that then the part being put down will be flawed. It's the same sort of thing as the other caption varieties.

I'm not at home at the moment... But if you look at most of the Mathewson pitching cards, both white and dark caps, you will see the caption curve...
I'll post some scans when I get a chance...

Yes Brian! I've seen this before on other Matty T206's! Thus my question and it's lure... This is the only example that I've ever owned/scanned.

I do see clear to Mr Birmingham and Sb1's explaination... Most Excellent I might add. As for the card being Trimmed... Nah ~ Never even crossed my mind!
