Take a Look at this Beauty-Show Off Your Trimmed Cards!

How do tpgs generally determine a card is trimmed, by examining the edges under magnification alone, or by measuring as well? I know some cards there can be quite a bit of variance in their size (the white border set for example), but if a card was trimmed a few decades ago, would that not make detecting trimming more difficult?

I guess you could call this trimmed. This has always been an interesting one for me......

If you look closely, someone very carefully cut out the "NY Giants" reference (just on the front, not cut through to the back) and glued on "Brooklyn" from another card. I have to imagine this was done in 1890, when he was with Brooklyn, since he went back to the Giants after that.

I've wondered the same thing. I'm not sure how much variance there might be on some of the sets from the 19th century. I picked up this card which I assume was deteremined to be slightly trimmed, but I can't tell by examining it in the holder. It's the only way I could afford such a beautiful Anson.

I am not sure if I am in the minority or not. I don't go out of my way to buy trimmed cards but I if I stumble on to a card that is otherwise nice except for a trim and assuming the trim is done reasonbly well, it really doesn't bother me. As longer as it is marketed as trimmed, I will decide to buy it or not based on the card and the "mood" that I am in. Had I seen this Anson, it would have been mine, no question. The trim doesn't take away from the shear beauty of this 19th Century gem.

I'm not a huge fan of acquiring trimmed cards but I knew this was probably the only way of crossing these three off my want list.
