Take a Look at this Beauty-Show Off Your Trimmed Cards!
1 Attachment(s)
Hey all, check this out! I was at a show today, and a good friend of mine gave me this t206 Cy Young card. It's seen better days, and is obviously trimmed, but it's such a cool piece of history! What do you guys think? Just because it's trimmed so severely doesn't mean it's not cool!
|
Very cool, Waz. I can see some kid in 1909 doing that to all his cards!!!

Very cool. Cut with such precision. You can almost envision an entire album page or more with these meticulously lined up side by side, perhaps arranged by team.
|
Yeah! Thanks guys, very cool stuff. Youngs are so nice!
|
There's gotta be people with more trimmed cards?
|
One of my firsts Waz, wanted an inexpensive example.

Don't know why...but I HATE trimmed cards and have removed 99% of them from my collection...unless trimmed is the only way they come...ie. proofs, hand cuts, strips...but this card will stay in my collection...for now!!!!!!
I love Ty's playful look of determination...only thing that could make it better'd be if his tongue was hanging out!!!!! |
Razor sharp corners!

I bought this about 25 yrs ago, raw. I didn't notice the trimming, nor did I know trimming was an issue. I like to think I've learned a little since then.

A relatively minor trim here but enough to take the grade from a 5/6 to Authentic.............

I got tired of worrying about whether or not a card was trimmed, so I started collecting them ...
|
Gorgeous cards Chris, I'm sure at bargain prices!

forget about this one before, looks like an 8! as long as cards are sold as such, no problem with trimmed ones for me!
|
I don't have a scan of it, but I have a great looking N172 Delahanty that I wouldn't have been able to afford if someone didn't take a tiny bit off the bottom. Just enough to put it in my price range and I thank them for it!

Bought this one when I started collecting. Didn't find out that it was trimmed until much later.

This was a CSA 7PQ graded card. I thought PQ stood for "print qualifier", not trimmed. :D

Slight bottom edge haircut.

Cut from an ad piece...much rarer than the reg issue!!!!!:D

How do tpgs generally determine a card is trimmed, by examining the edges under magnification alone, or by measuring as well? I know some cards there can be quite a bit of variance in their size (the white border set for example), but if a card was trimmed a few decades ago, would that not make detecting trimming more difficult?

Extreme trimming . . .

I guess you could call this trimmed. This has always been an interesting one for me......
If you look closely, someone very carefully cut out the "NY Giants" reference (just on the front, not cut through to the back) and glued on "Brooklyn" from another card. I have to imagine this was done in 1890, when he was with Brooklyn, since he went back to the Giants after that. |

The highlight of my collection. I prefer to call it my well-centered, sharp corner and crease-free Red Sox Ruth.

Thanks Chris. I had forgotten about this one. Obvious trim, but it had such a nice image and wasn't expensive so I went ahead and picked it up.

I'm not a huge fan of acquiring trimmed cards but I knew this was probably the only way of crossing these three off my want list.
|
Steve,
I don't collect that set but I'm sure those fall into the category of "buy 'em if you can find 'em". |
Wow some beautiful trimmed cards! I still think they look great!
