I figured Tinker would be a bigger seller than Crawford, but I may be wrong. What is your opinion?
Tinker is more desirable and there are enough Chicago collectors that it should go higher than Crawford. If it were his portrait then I don't know that we'd be having this discussion. Will it get $10k on bst with a motivated seller? I doubt it.

Not right now it wouldn't, lol. I've had this discussion with a lot of members here trying to sell right now. Seems like many people are having a rough go of it right now in the BST sections. Too many members saving their money right now for REA and the National coming up. This is probably the worst time to have cards listed for sale right now. There's a lot of great deals on cards in BST section right now and they're just barely moving at all. A lot of us were contemplating pulling the listings and waiting until after the National.

HOF rare backs are hit or miss. I've seen some that you'd expect to go for a ton, sell low, and vice versa. 2 months ago I bought a clean PSA 1.5 McGraw Lenox back for only 1300. That is just slightly above a common price for that back. I've been told by Scot R that his back multiplier chart is just for commons, not HOFers. I believe it was also he who said his guess for HOFers would be about 1/2 of the common multiplier, maybe he could jump in here and explain why. But from my perspective I'd much rather have a common rare back and not pay any premium for a HOFer on the front. I think many back collectors would agree.

There's several tiers of HOFers, Tinker being on the lower end.

To each their own, but this back craze cracks me up. It is almost as if people are evolving to collecting tobacco advertising cards vs. baseball cards. Is this sustainable? Feels like a risky time to be buying into the craze right now. I would personally much rather have a T3 SGC 20 Johnson than a Lenox advertisement.

Again, not knocking what people like, just fascinated by the prices I've been seeing.

As someone who has collected "backs", and not necessarily only T206, for the past 17 yrs I don't think the craze is going away soon. I love to collect the backs.

I too am skeptical of just how much longer it will last. Even though I do also like to collect the rarer backs, I don't do it just for the back alone. If I'm going to buy a card of a rarer back, I want it to either be a player I'm interested in or a particular pose that I enjoy. It's gotta be the right combo for me to drop my money.

Very true, just like the E card bubble a few years back. Many, many collectors got their asses burnt by way overpaying......now they're stuck and hoping for another HUGE upswing in E card collecting some day down the road.
