He does have a resemblance to Beck as well but Beck is right handed too

Cubs lefties from that era with prominent ears leads me to Cliff Heathcote, but the lack of detail in the photo keeps me from being able to do more than guess.

Doh! Shows how much I can get focused on one aspect, and gloss over the obvious stuff (that has already been pointed out, no less).

Okay, so going strictly on the "Lefty" scenario for 1928-31, we have the following:
Cliff Heathcote 1928-30
Joe Kelly 1928
Art Nehf 1928-29
Percy Jones 1928
Lefty Weinert 1928
Mike Cvengros 1929
Bud Teachout 1930-31
Jesse Petty 1930
Mal Moss 1930
Les Sweetland 1931
Jakie May 1931-32

My money (if I had any left after the Clyde Beck fumble) would be on Weinert, whose jawline looks most similar to me out of the above list.

I don't have a scan of Weinert, so will have to go by his head shot from baseball-reference.com

I looked at Weinert, but thought his frame appeared too large for the player in the photo. Here he is, nestled between Heathcote (l) and the original photo (r).

Hey Scott! Yeah, seeing him head-on, and next to Heathcote to boot, I think you're right that Heathcote is a better match. The shape of his head seems to be a better match. I should have known you would have a better shot of him!
