For me, they scan better on one side than the other, with white card behind them.

If you don't mind. I've been cultivating a growing interest in all things "minor league," balls included, and haven't seen that particular side-stamping before. Feel free to e-mail if you don't want to clog things up here.

Lance, I have about 6 or 7 Giles game balls that all have that same stamping...not sure how many team signed balls I have like that, but it's at least another 5. I also have a bunch of Ford Frick balls with Ed Johnson Western League President stampings...I show a couple of them below.

Here is a better picture of the glass lantern slide I picked up. It is actually baseball sheet music.

David,
Does this photo match up with your Gehrig ticket that you've shown from 1939? Last edited by Scott Garner; 05-19-2013 at 09:34 PM. |

David,
That photo went so cheap; almost purchased as a duplicate. It is such an important moment in history. Congrats on that for sure sir. It will go perfectly with your ticket. Below are a couple shots I added to my early and growing Babe Ruth Collection(both circa 1918). I have recently decided to focus my efforts on Ruth as I simply cannot collect everything.

Thanks for holding back, Ben! I stayed up 'till the auction ended--5:00 A.M.
Nice Ruth shots! (If you're planning on parting with any of your Gehrigs, please let me know.) |

Picked this up for around half the original BIN, with money back guaranty. Trying to verify its authenticity. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks...Tim

David, any idea how rare those Gehrig tickets are? It's on my list, but somewhere down the road. Just hoping they're not so rare that they can't be found.

I just received this original 1954 8X10 photo of Willie Mays in Puerto Rico. He and Clemente played together in the Cangrejeros de Santurce outfield that year. This is one of three original photos depicting Mays in his sole season in Puerto Rico that I have ever come across. I passed on one in a previous REA auction and one in a Yee auction. I later kicked myself. When I saw this one I had to have it. I likely over paid but I am very pleased to have it nonetheless. I think it is an attractive image that seems to tell a story. This picture is my first pick up since undergoing surgery three weeks ago. It’s funny how purchasing it makes my world feel as if it is starting to return to normal. This hobby may be hell on my wallet but is certainly good for my soul.

Not to be contrarian, but I think the image goes with the mount - just out west somewhere. Check out the catcher's mitt - probably early 1900's.

To all for your help. My thought was that the gloves suggested something other than the purported age. However, I think that it is a great image, and adding 10 years or so does nothing to take away from it. The owner suggested to me that a Cheyenne Wyoming photgrapher had dated it for him, authenticated it and actually tried to purchase it several years ago... Tim

Dell,
WOW. That is amazing. It's incredible that something that old could still have vibrant colors like that. Congrats. Mark

Not sure what compelled me to buy this but will make cool display pieces. I have no idea whether these are modern or not but do appear to have some age to them. |

Anybody want to read up on the Syracuse Chiefs from 1961 to 1974? Picked up this run of scrapbooks reportedly assembled by (or for) the team's owner during that period, though it could have just as easily been anyone in the front office by the look of them. Mostly newspaper clippings, but several hundred autographs scattered throughout as well, with most having gone on to play in the majors. No Thurman Munson though (first thing I checked

Mike (71buc) led me to this ebay '62 wire photo of Bob Feller with his Dad's catchers mitt (now in my collection). I was able to match the two, which was a big relief given that the mitt was once in Halper's possession:

As a side note.... the vast majority of Halper's stuff was good. A very few of the more visible/noteworthy pieces were mis-represented, and those items have received all of the publicity/infamy. But those tainted uniforms/autographs actually represent a miniscule percentage of the overall Halper collection. Last edited by perezfan; 05-31-2013 at 01:40 PM. |

Circa 1865 CdV of 2 baseball games in progress. The reverse states that the image was from Topeka KS and that 2 games are being played. You need a magnifying glass to see the players clearly, but its all there. I've never seen a game action CdV from this period not originating from the northeast. Interesting and unusual. The railroad tracks in the foreground are a nice touch.
Sorry for the small scan. I'll try to make a larger one. Last edited by GaryPassamonte; 05-31-2013 at 02:30 PM. |

Yup, and it's going to be at least one long afternoon of photographing all that paper before I release those back into the wild. I'll let you know when I finally get around to it if you want a peek.
