Peter, my gut is if you put your Wagner up for sale, rather than trade, you would get big value. It’s tough to trade a card of that value. Also, many times I put a card on the BST asking $X, and after getting no bites, consigned it to an AH where I get 130%-200% of $X. BST is not always the best place to sell such a major card.

Modern money is making a bet on Wagner cards right now.

I finally picked up my first Wagner card at auction last night.
Although not from his playing days(or even Pre-War for that matter), it is multiple times more rare than his almighty T206. 1964 Peñafiel from Mexico::: Last edited by IMAXMAX; 02-18-2024 at 08:36 PM. |

Was watching the T206 Matty, dark cap, PSA 5, really nice for the grade. Basic Piedmont back. Ended w/bp 7800. - OMG. Has to be a new all time high for that card in that grade ! Has the pre-war market bottomed and now trending up in 2024?

If that was the bottom, it wasn't much of a bottom.

Hopefully cards will get too expensive soon and we'll see a trickle down into his autographs too. His signature is still pretty affordable for a universal tier one guy:

no, it's not. There is definitely a perception that honus doesn't have a ton of cards to choose from. While I believe he has many...there are not nearly as many to choose from as cobbs...there's no question about that.
Portraits have been on fire last few years as they are similar to the t206. to me...these prices are pretty crazy on m116's. i'm not sure if they are legit or being manipulated. |

Hank, I don't know much about the M116 set, but I'll venture a guess that the WaJo with the "OVER 300 SUBJECTS" back is rarer.

I agree.
Also, the pop on a PSA 5 and higher is 14. Besides the T206 and M116, I can only think of only a few issues that depict a playing age Wagner that actually looks like him. I am far from an expert on prewar, but he just doesn't have too many really nice-looking cards. The ultra-modern market can be manipulated rather easily, and I expect to now see a bunch of Wagners hitting the market. From M116 and beyond ....

What does this do, if anything, for the pastel?

Huh? Wagner has many playing age cards. LOL. Not sure if you are referring to him or the card not being nice looking but imo many of his playing age cards are good looking cards.

As I mentioned, he doesn't have many cards that look like him, save the few I had mentioned. Just my opinion. Your opinion may be different, and that is okay.

I've always liked the M101 and Collins McCarthy sets for having actual photos of Wagner.
