I've seen 3 of these sheets in 20+ years of looking, and own/owned 2 of them. They were all exactly the same.
In the '70's Dodger Stadium used to sell envelopes of '64 Giants, 25 cards for a buck. We bought TONS of them, as it was the easiest way to get cards of players that had retired before my friends and I started collecting. Koufax was almost as plentiful as Mantle (and way more popular in LA) and there were tons of Stuart, Cisco, Mays, Causey, etc. When we started trading thru the mail about '73 my friends and I put together and sold complete sets, and it didn't appear any card was tougher than others. At the monthly card meeting in Garden Grove one guy always had a table stack high with them, I assume he had access to vending cases. So based on all of this and the sheets I don't believe there were short prints on that set.

FWIW when I was putting together a high grade set about 10 years ago Johnny Romano was the card that eluded me for months in PSA 9.[/QUOTE]

I will say one thing -- a "card" scarcity can certainly be a different object than a "grading" scarcity. I'm sure there are cards which are on one level easy which do not grade well and cards which are difficult which usually grade very well.

I'm sure there is a reason for the "scarcity" of those 7 cards since that goes way back. But there is one thing I can agree with 100 percent based on that sheet and based on personal knowledge. The Mantle card is ridiculously easy on all levels in that set.

OK guys, I'm stretching the timeline with this post. But, I consider this a special issue worthy of displaying here. These cards
were created for the 2nd Philly Show (1976).
In 1975, the famous "Willow Grove" Show was initially set-up at Spring Garden College (located in a Philadelphia suburb). In
1978, this Show was re-located to Willow Grove.

This very popular Boxing set originally included Rocky Graziano. However, for not well understood reasons, Graziano forced the LEAF GUM Co.
to discontinue issuing his card. Very few of Graziano's LEAF cards are in circulation. This of course, makes his card one of the most expensive
Boxing cards in the hobby.

The closest I come is a very partial sheet (2 cards) from the 1933 Goudey set. This is from sheet 10 featuring the World Series participants, the Manush being the top left card on the sheet, and the Bluege being (obviously) the far left card on the row below it.

The other half sheet has Alston at top left, so the cards are printed in equal quantities (except for checklist). 88 unique cards printed, so 3 of each across the two half-sheets.

I love uncut sheets so I'd like to join in.

It's not nearly so exotic as the other posts in this thread...but I recently picked up a 1979 Topps uncut sheet. Was pretty nice to find it in the UK!

I haven't gotten around to framing it yet. It's still in it's shipping tube so the photo is from the ebay listing.

If someone is willing to educate me, how were uncut sheets made available for old sets? I get that strip cards needed to be cut in the first place. But for old Bowman and Topps sets, were they issued as special gifts to employees or did employees liberate them from the factory?

I'm confused as to what sheet you are talking about, but I'm glad you revived this thread.

I have only one that is worth showing... complete with a few bb gun holes, back when cards were to be played with.

In the mid-1970s I broke about 8 cases of 1964 Topps Giants. I sold complete sets for $2.00, and later, $2.40, through classified ads in SCD for a couple years. I got them from a guy named Merv Williams, whom I believe had only one leg, and for some reason I think he may have lived in Mountain View, CA, but I might be confusing that location with someone else.

Merv had a bunch of old unopened stuff. My buddy Carson Ritchey once told me of a time he visited Merv, and they'd walk through stacks of unopened stuff, and Carson would pick up a box at random, and it would be 1966 Topps high number vending, or some other treasure. I had always wanted to visit Merv just to see what all he had.

Anyway, the cases I got from Merv were similar to Topps "cut" cases from the 1980s - a bunch of cards packed into one big box, with no smaller packaging. Just bulk cards. The cases of 1964 Giants had about 4,400 cards each. Every one of them had about half as many of the 7 short prints as the rest of the cards, and Mantle was the most plentiful.

Because of the short print problem, I also offered 50 different cards for $1.00 (plus 40 cents postage,) and eventually, I sold some lots of 1,000 assorted cards. There were other cards that seemed more plentiful, like Kaline, Bailey, Radatz, Billy Williams, and a few others, while several were less common but not scarce, like Ellsworth, Hinton, Romano, and Ford. So when I sold my leftovers in those 1,000 card lots, the distribution was quite poor, something like 100 Mantles and 50 each of 18 other cards.

I did find a guy through SCD who would sell me extra short prints so I could fill out more sets, and that worked great at first, but as he bumped his prices, the economics made that situation less attractive, and eventually Merv ran out of cases.

Anyway, I can attest with absolute certainty that the 8 cases (35,000 cards in unopened cases) definitely had a short print situation going on. Whether that situation existed throughout the entire run, I have no idea.

Cutting them into individual proofs is contrary to this thread...

You have four Tidewater Tides promo sheets on your ebay site, nothing besides that that would qualify for inclusion in this thread. The two sheets you posted on this thread do not seem to be available on either your personal site or on ebay, and neither are the "hundreds of sheets" you referenced.

Evidently you are instead cutting the sheets up, presumably so that you can get a good opinion from the opinion sellers. Considering the entire point of this thread, I would say that if this were a conversation about religion, then you would qualify as a blasphemer.

Trying to put together a SET of these GOUDEY cards in 1933 was quite a frustrating experience. Certain lower number cards were not available in the Spring
and Summer of 1933. The 10th sheet was printed in mid October, and these cards were issued from November to December 1933. The bios on the backs of
them reflect the 1933 World Series between the NY Giants and Washington. I have arranged the cards from my set to exactly simulate this 24-card sheet **









This diagram of the back of 10th sheet cards reveals the story of when 15 (of the 22) mysterious lower numbered cards where finally issued.




Card #'s 97, 98, 99, 128, 129, and 142 were printed on the 9th sheet. And, of course #106 (Lajoie) was printed on the 1934 GOUDEY Hi # sheet that was
issued in the Summer of 1934 which finally completed this 240-card set.

T'was a clever marketing trick that Goudey played on collectors in order to sell a lot of cards in 1933....but, it was also a very "mean" trick on the collectors.


** Note....In the simulated sheet arrangement I mistakenly switched the cards of Manush (#107) and Kuhel (#108). This will be corrected.

A thread about uncut sheets would obviously involve people who enjoy uncut sheets, and PROBABLY those same people would be in favor of NOT CUTTING THEM UP.

But I understand your point.

I'm a big fan of seeing uncut sheets, so I've browsed this thread a number of times recently.

I recently added my first uncut cards to my collection (a six card panel of 1952 Bowman) so I figured I would add an image to this thread.

I have a separate thread on the modern board looking for info on whether this is a salesman sample, or just a partial production sheet. Not sure if there is a difference.
