Well we know Mantle last card was 1969
Yogi Berra had manager cards i believe in the 1980s as well as Billy Martin.. what about players I wonder who else had the last Topps card as a player and who had the last as a manager. |

Dick Williams had his rookie card in the 1952 set and his last card as manager in the 1988 set.
Willie Mays last Topps card as a player was 1973. |

Yogi's last manager card was 1985 Topps. However he last appeared on a card in 1987 Topps on the Astros team leaders card.
Billy Martin's last was 86 Topps Red Schoendienst's last card was 1990 Topps Traded |

Not THAT amazing. He was 67, there have certainly been older managers.

Older, maybe. But none in the majors for longer.

Dusty Baker? Connie Mack? Baker's RC was 1971 and I don't know if they still make manager cards, but he could have had one 50 plus years later. Even if you don't count LaRussa's comeback, his RC was 1964 and he could have had a manager card in 2011, 47 years later. 58 years later if you count his recent comeback. Joe Torre RC 1962 was still managing in 2010 (48 years).

In professional baseball (counting a few years in the minors) Reds Tenure was 76 years with 74 of them being consecutive. (And 67 years just with the Cardinals). That's longer than Dusty Baker is old. Connie Mack I believe is 65 years total.

And therefore what? You don't get a card for being an executive or consultant or whatever Red was in his 70s and 80s, we are talking about player - manager sequence. Jake said it was "amazing" Red had a card 38 years after 1952 Topps (42 years from his RC) and I'm putting that in context.

In the case of OFFICIAL topps releases (no weird off sets) I think from rookie to last official release I believe it's Frank Robinson. 1957 topps rookie to manager card in 2005 topps so 48 years. I'm not sure about modern cards either, but a friend told me about that one of Frank. Also, Not sure about Tony but that could be if he has a recent release. ![]()

LaRussa would be longer if he had a 2022 card with the White Sox, much longer. 1964 to 2022 is 58 years. But I dunno if they made one, guess I can look it up.

Ralph Houk's rookie card was 1952 Topps. His last card was 1985 Topps I believe, I think that's actually on topic, though I'm not sure after reading a lot of the other posts.

Casey Stengel is pretty close. 1910 T210 to 1965 Topps. Which means you can get from 1910 to 2022 in just two people, although not continuous of course.

You can get from Old Judge to 2024 Topps in 3 - Connie Mack 1887 OJ to 1940 Play Ball then Ted Williams through to 1971/2 Topps to Dusty Baker who has a card in 2024 Heritage. Not continuous either, but still

i would contend that it cant just be any card or career award,,,the person has to be an active manager or player for the card..

Yup. And those three players all qualify on those conditions. Not continuous as I said, but still cool.
