I am getting my auctions ready for February 24 and assembling some "57's"...I am reminded that there are 4 Orioles in our 130-card set!

There has been some interest in the Orioles team issued postcards, so I'll periodically post some examples from my collection. Today, I'll highlight the set from 1962 that does include Brooks Robinson. The checklist is below. I'm still missing the Ron Hansen and both Wes Stock variations. If you have them, I'm interested.

Great story and nice to see some schedules posted. It's an area of my collection that I'm weak in, but some friends of mine are very passionate about. I can't believe the prices some of the early O's skeds fetch in auction.

Scott (quitcrab) has an example of a Rawlings Advisory photo that I had never seen before; I’m glad he pictured it on this thread for all to see. Scott, maybe just a shot of the one of a kind Rawlings photo by itself?
Since we’ve already seen this Rawlings premium photo I’ll go ahead and picture another dugout shot of Brooks. I don’t think this snapshot is from 1969; the writing on the back states, September 11, 1966. The Orioles played the Twins in Metropolitan Stadium this day and the O’s “almost” came out on top.

That's an interesting question. The most difficult postcards for me are the ones I still need. LOL

The B&W issues from 1954-1969 are definitely harder to find than the color postcards from 1970 to present. Postcards from 1954-1956 are toughest to find. However, within each year from 1954-1969, there are easier and harder players to find. Most likely, the popularity and time spent with the Orioles contribute to the scarcity of certain postcards. Players often used them to answer fan mail request.

Here are a few in my collection that are on most Orioles PC wantlists.

1954 "printed" postcard of Vern Stephens. There are 10 different known and this is the only one I have. These are much harder than the 1954-56 glossy postcards in my experience.

I do have quite a few, but not all of them are in uniform; if fact most of them aren't in uniform. Some I have are from events he attended and such. Through the years of collecting these have been fun items to pick up along the way. Now, when found, they are getting a tad expensive (at least for snapshots) for the nice shots.

Day 41 (February 10, 2020 – 041)

I knew I had to break out my Kellogg’s box once John (Orioles70) pictured the box from his collection (post #613). Now, I wasn’t much of a Kellogg’s Corn Flakes fan growing up; I liked more of the Frosted Flakes variety BUT if there was a “3-D” baseball card inside the corn flakes that’s what I “begged” for and had to have for my nutritious morning breakfast cereal (and of course dig through for the card). Finally found it and pulled out the 1970 Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box advertising the “3-D” Baseball Cards which pictures Brooks predominately on the back of the box. The box also pictures the 3-D cards of Wynn, Harper, Petrocelli and Rose. This box of cereal was a whopping 22 cents.

Someone along the line cut out the Brooks 3-D card from the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box and I picked it up cheaply some time ago.

Good morning, I believe I had previously mentioned on this thread that I collect baseball-related wine bottles. Here are some the examples from the Orioles that I have.

I am still looking for a closed bottle of the Brooks Chardonnay and Eddie Murray has a newer wine out (Round Tripper) that i am still looking for.

From 1954-1974, the Orioles faithfully printed annual yearbooks. Beginning in 1975 until 2002, the yearbooks were sporadic, with several gaps of 6-7 years between printings, in the 1980's and 90's. Since 2003, the tradition has been revived. Rumor is that there won't be a 2020 edition. I hope that isn't true.

Brooks Robinson has appeared on the cover of several of the yearbooks, but the photo used for 1963 is my favorite. Some may not know that the Orioles issued two editions that year to include updates. It is also the oversized version the Orioles used from 1962-1965.

Good info...can we be more specific...I would like to know if there were any O's yearbooks issued in these years...1975-1979, 1985, 1987-1992, 1995-2002...I have all other years from 1954 to date

Love the Dalkowski postcard, Alan. Unfortunately, he never made it to the majors. Spent 9 1/2 years in the minor leagues, pitching 970 innings with 1324 strikeouts and 1274 BB's. That's just a wild stat line. Lots of great Dalko stories.

I love that Tom Gastall PC (here is an autographed 012 version). For those who didn't know, Gastall was a highly touted athlete out of Boston University, who signed in June of 1955. On an off day in September of 1956, after only playing in 32 games with the club that season, a small plane he was piloting crashed into the Chesapeake Bay, killing him at the young age of 23.

This PC was signed three months before that fateful day:

I believe there were no Yearbooks issued during those time frames you referenced...

As an aside, the Orioles did issue Video Yearbooks in both 1987 & 1988 (VHS Format)...I can show photos if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Bill is correct. No yearbooks during those years, except for the video yearbooks. I didn't like the video version then and I still don't.

I seen this tread and am currently watching a 1969 World Series with the Mets vs. Orioles. If anyone hasn't subscribed to mlb vault on youtube.com I highly suggest it. They have a ton of old footage. Watching Bob Gibson in the 1968 was amazing. It was one of the most dominate performances I had ever seen. Brooks Robinson was a very underrated batter as well. Defensively Yes, offensively no, Schmidt was better. Beltre and Jones were too.

P.s. I would rather mlb network play these classics then the rotation of Sandlot, Mr. Baseball and Bull Durham on a 3 day rotation.

If there's one thing I've learned in these 41 Days is that I really need to pick it up on learning about collecting Oriole items. I "thought" I was at least pretty decent at the Brooks stuff, which I'm probably not, but general Orioles I'm left wanting. Thanks to you and the others for sharing not only your collections, but the knowledge that goes along with it. Now here's another item I have to see if I have both examples.

I'm with you with this being my favorite picture used on this yearbook and as an added bonus it's over sized; love it.

Day 42 (February 11, 2020 – 042)

I’m really not sure what this is, kind of a booklet type item, but it lists Bill Veeck’s All-time All-star Team and folds out to show an artist rendering of Veeck’s selected all-time all-star players (I can’t quite make out the artists name). On the cover it has Champion Papers and is a Coated Offset Cover /80 for you printing people (whatever that means…).

Such great looking rosters and schedules. So many of the great Orioles pictures were taken in Miami Stadium.

There's a competition almost every weekend, and some for both cheer and dance. This week is Cheersport in Atlanta. This is "supposed" to be her last year; we'll see...

Man, that’s a nice looking patriotic old school rig parked in front of Memorial Stadium. There’s Frank Robinson, Merv Rettenmund, Dave McNally and Brooks Robinson holding a Flagtown USA sign along with some fellow employees of the E. Stewart Mitchell Inc. company in Baltimore, MD. I think the fellow on Brooks’ left is Barton Mitchell the son of E. Stewart Mitchell who started the liquid asphalt business in 1941. The asphalt truck has the statement, “Cover IT with ASPHALT”. Hopefully this Maryland asphalt company is still covering it with asphalt…

I don't know too much about this issue, but have seen pics of the Brooks Robinson before, probably yours. I have seen a few other players from the set including Rick Reichardt and Tony Conigliaro. I would love to have the card in my collection, but I'm sure it's way out of my price range. It is a rare card. Is there a story how you acquired it?

In 1964 and 1965, Hasbro sold a baseball board game called "Challenge the Yankees". It was a dice based game, that included 50 player cards (25 Yankees and 25 All-Stars). It is loosely based upon other baseball games, like Strat-O-Matic, since the same roll of the dice would render different results depending who was batting. The cards are 4" x 5.5".

The only Oriole each year was Milt Pappas. The only way to differentiate the two years is the addition on the 1965 of reference to a game in 1964 and stats updates.

Good morning Mark, I collect advertising pieces and I absolutely love that photo (which I have never seen before). I'm trying to picture the directions given by the photographer: Everyone look as stiff as you can and absolutely no touching.
