Patrick, there have always been and will always be stupid, greedy people out there. If they ceased to exist I wouldn't have a job...Just remember that almost 50% of the American public is of below average intelligence, and they are allowed to vote, own guns, drive and procreate. And buy cards. Think of it this way: every time one of these fellows gets it in his mullet-topped head to open his fanny pack and spend the ciggie money on a PSA 10 card from the overjuiced, overproduced era, he is not putting his hand into the prewar cookie jar. We all can sit back and smirk at him and his 200# heifer-wife as they waddle down the aisle at the National in their jorts, but at least they aren't pissing in the prewar bidders pool.

As for T206 commons, it seems like there are cards considered commons that keep going up, first Titus, then Pelty/Horiz. and Doyle, no Nat'l sells for a lot more than commons. The Magee portrait prices are high and I've seen some odd prices recently for some cards considered easy to find like the Elberfeld NY card that someone posted here recently.

I've heard for awhile that Puttman cards are tough to find and the prices seem to reflect that, but I could see that being the next card that takes off. You look on Ebay and there has only been two listed in the last six weeks(one is active and high-priced). If I had an extra, I'd probably list it on Ebay with a high price and see if anyone bites. Eventually, that high price, might not seem high.

I also think people are looking for specific front/back combos that don't have many graded and paying more. Not sure how many people are going after a master set, but it sure seems like some people pay like they are.

Since I posted this a week ago, the high-priced Puttman sold within a day. It was a raw copy, sold for $100. A PSA2 was listed with an $88 BIN and sold right away and another ungraded copy sold for $100 in an auction style listing.

This holds to T201 cards as well. Misprints and miscut cards now seem to go for a premium. Normal cards used to sell in the low teens now seem to go for quite a bit more. When I started collecting T201's 20+ years ago, I used to be able to pick them up for $11 each.

The prices have gone down a little since this thread was active and the cards are still plentiful. One low grade one sold for $34 not long ago, so it's attainable even on a budget, you just have to watch for them
