I managed to pick up two cards that were pretty high on my want list -- the 1914 CJ Plank and the 1916 Zeenut Billy Southworth. How did the rest of you do?

I thought some things looked fairly soft - was expecting all the buzz in the hobby to shoot a lot of things to the moon. I picked up the m101-3 Cobb which has been on my want list. A few other Cobb postcards seemed weak, though the Azoras looked so cool.

Paul, I was bidding on the Plank also! Great card! Looks the the PSA 8 Mikan RC set an all time record. Looks like after fees and taxes it will be like $105,000!!! Wowser!
Back in the 1980s, as a college student, I set up at the Ed Keetz show at the Polish Community Center near Albany NY. I sold a Joe Jackson card for $150 (doubled my money) because it had a weird red ink mark on his face. Got that card back tonite. Paid a smidge more than $150. ![]() ![]() item_71392_1_161431.jpg What goes around.......comes around..... lol Peace, Mike Last edited by vthobby; 12-06-2020 at 11:24 PM. |

Picked up this collection of signed lithographs from the 1953 Topps artwork that Marriott had acquired in the 1980s. Don't know much about 'em other than what was in the description, but think they will display beautifully with my complete '53 set.

Very nice! I had bid on that, but went to bed last night with my money in the lead on something else. Woke up to find I didn't get that one either. It was a very inexpensive night for me! (Although I more than made up for it with holiday shopping yeserday.)

I had my first ever REA win in this auction. I am not much of an autograph guy at all, but I am happy to pick up a signed Amelia Earhart check. I know it is not a big purchase compared to what else will undoubtedly be shown in this thread, but this was a pretty big buy for me.
The price seemed soft IMO compared to other Earhart checks that have sold in recent years. Under $1,000 for a slabbed Earhart check seemed like a great deal compared to what random scraps of paper signed by her sell for. https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=74306

Nice pick up on that Plank. Those La Azora Cobbs were great, hope a member got them.
Picked up 8 lots, underpaid for some, par value on others, overpaid for one, but checked off a few long time wants on my list. Missed out on a couple steals but had to stay on budget. PS: Andy, I got your E98 Clarke. Time for a Whiskey... Last edited by Casey2296; 12-07-2020 at 02:07 PM. |

Thanks to John W., Jobu/Bryan, Andrew, Ryan, Derek, John C. & Brian L. for your kind comments re the Sam Rice rookie cards I picked up.
Jim C., I'm grateful that you decided to focus on another card, which I assume is the amazing 1916 Herps of Cobb you won, instead of the Standard Biscuit of Rice. FYI, I was prepared to bid whatever it took to win this card, and I was most worried about competing against a Standard Biscuit collector, such as you.

My lone win is the Paul Thompson Stengel that I couldn't stop looking at.
Anyone here get the studio Gehrig photo (lot 2264 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...itemid=73520)? I love that one too.

Picked up the last card needed to complete the set! It didn't feel as satisfying as I had envisioned but I'm not holding it in my hand yet either. Sales tax is very painful too. The cards was $6k with the BP and with tax and shipping I paid about $6,700.

I got two items that i wanted and a bonus.
The Home Run Baker signed check for $840 inc buyers premium seemed soft to me. https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=73002 The other two items were John McGraw and Eddie Collins signed checks. I did not expect to be able to get them both but i did. The McGraw is check is extremely rare and the Eddie Collins check is a close second. Most McGrew checks had the signature cut out of the check but this one somehow escaped. Great addition to my collection. https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=73029 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=73080 The Gehrig check was beautiful and a relative bargain at $20k with buyers premium. IT appears the Gehrig family is letting more checks out into the market. |

Can anyone tell me what shipping service REA is using, and do they provide you with a tracking number once your items are shipped? With the current nightmare shipping delays, due to holiday shipping and COVID, this seems like a terrible time of year to be moving all these pricey (and priceless) pieces.

Great, great stuff, guys. I see a few lots I was going after a bit...nice to see people of such good taste here.
I really thought I went "all in" on a Wilt Chamberlain RC. Apparently not. I ended up with this N174: ![]() I am not a fan of OJs unless they are clear and have good contrast, which this one of HOFer McAuliffe does. You can even see the details on the championship belt. Paid by Zelle and the card is already in hand; lightning shipping by REA.
