I was very excited about winning this cabinet photo - you can see by the 'before' photo that it's pretty cool. 11x14, lots of cool pillbox hats.
Unfortunately, the cabinet was placed in a huge bubble-mailer with 1 piece of a priority mail box laying on top of it, then shipped Parcel Post. It didn't have a chance...

I don't think it's ruined - the print only is torn on the bottom left corner. If it's an albumen I can soak it off the mount and put it on another one. I just need to find a cheap period mount on ebay.
If I figure it out I'll post a pic of the final result.

When I remember to, I send the follow-up messages with packing instructions, leading off with "This probably goes without saying, but just in case, here's how this should be packed:" And on a number of occasions, I've actually gotten a response to the effect of, "Oh, well I usually just pack everything in bubble mailers," or "If you want it packed that way, I'll have to charge you extra for shipping," at which point I pony up the additional shipping cost and pray that the idiot doesn't still manage to screw it up. And when I don't remember to send packing instructions, that's usually when I get a sharp reminder why I started doing that in the first place... ![]() Anyway, nice photo, and good luck with the repair work, Scott. |

Thanks Lance - I'm going to start replying like you suggested. I forgot completely about that cabinet debacle, as the 11x17 Wagner portrait arrived this morning. Finally able to tell who the photographer was: R.W. Johnston, the same guy who did the 1909 Pittsburg Panorama tri-fold postcard:

Scott--Wonderboy apparently sold recently--see the link below. If they had the custom-made case and a Redford-signed LOA, that would have to make it the greatest baseball movie prop of all time, right?

I'm fairly sure that there were multiple copies made of 'Wonderboy' - not sure if it was a limited edition made after the movie, or if anyone could order one.

Good afternoon Gents,
I just received this in the mail today (purchased from the bay). It is supposed to be an 8x10 George Burke photo (owner told me the Burke stamp is on verso) from the early 30s, signed in black fountain pen. Its been matted and framed in UV glass. The previous owner had made a minor fix as their were a few small holes in the neck region and in the black background, so he utilized some older sepia photos (attached to the back) to make the holes practically un-noticeable. I kinda want to take the photo out to see the Burke stamping on the verso and the fix that the owner made mention of, but likewise don't want to damage the fine framing. Any suggestions? I have seen Burke/Red Sox signed photos of Grove, but this is the first Burke/Athletics one I have seen...whether its Burke or not, I love the photo and signature. |

Charlie Sheen's Bat from "Eight Men Out". Super excited about it. I don't want to screw up the thread with a link, so after you finish reading this one, head over to the Game-Used Pre-1980 forum. Pics are up.

I accidentally went to that sub-forum, and I'm glad - that's a great piece. Now you just need "wonderboy".

Beautiful piece, Mike... I love the dual-colored stitching, and the crazing gives it that charismatic antique look. Very "slim pickins" on ebay these days... great pick-up!
