It is a vertical full-sized pennant. Not over sized or 3/4 size. The other known Reds pennant from 1919 is also full-sized, but horizontal.
It's not conclusive, but after so many years of collecting these things, I believe oversized pennants were gone prior to 1919. I think it's a good bet that oversized Major League Baseball pennants were made from the 1900s up until 1917 (perhaps 1918). If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, please post it!

I know there's a BST, but thought this would get a better response here...
Does anyone have a nice condition 1969 or 1965 All Star Game Pennant they would sell or trade? Perhaps someone has a duplicate? Neither is all that rare or exotic, but I'd like to complete the ASG pennant run I have going. Just checked eBay, and neither one is currently listed. I never went after the 1969 version because it looks cheap and mass-produced. It kind of represents the end of the "artistic pennant" era. I never went after the 1965 version because I hate Picture Pennants. But now I regret having 2 holes in the pennant run. Just need 1965 and 1969, if anyone is looking to sell/trade. Thanks! Mark Ps. We are shooting a TSOG Video today, on All Star Game Pennants, to air during All Star Week. I just realized these voids when I pulled them all out... DUH ![]()

Yeah I think you are basically correct, there are only a few isolated counter examples. The only dated pennants I’ve seen from the 1920s are all just full-size or smaller.
As for the Mets - thanks! - and will do. I somehow got one that was not faded. Here’s the 1969 dated version, which raises questions since it is sans MLB trademark. |

Greg loves showing off those “jumbo size” pennants. I don’t blame him. I’m just glad there’s not a Giants. I couldn’t stand it.

Hey Jim- thanks for sharing these pics. I've heard Mark say that there used to be more things like this that came up for sale (although they clearly were not cheap). It's nice to see them.

It’s been on my wantlist for years. A big time Tacoma collector told me I’d have to “back up the Brinks truck” to get his. I told him I would never do that. It doesn’t have a ton of what JR would call “eye appeal.” That said, I would have been all over it if I had seen it before Marc. Good get; very rare.

Yep it never saw sunlight, the blue cloth is still very bright. It’s definitely vintage. The question is if it is Trench or not. All other signs point to ‘yes’ but the other Trench 1969 Mets (notably with the roster) have the trademark.

Jim, the 1924 Washington pennant … if I recall there’s a picture underneath in the catalog that I recall shows a post-series celebration with the pennants on display. I actually think it is my much less appealing version pictured below. If you are able could you post a highest resolution shot of that picture?
Someone did that for me some time ago but it was too blurry. I will also DM you if email is easier. Thanks for pics! Last edited by thetahat; 06-19-2023 at 12:05 PM. |

Santa Clara's main rival, obtained in a trade. I could never own a Dodgers pennant. Or an Auburn pennant (my grad degree is from Alabama). But for some reason I'm ok with this. I particularly like the blue one.

That’s great info Hank, thank you. I have a less detailed photo and although it isn’t clear it kinda looks like the baseball graphic is sans Walter … I think the stronger evidence is the placement of the date underneath the baseball (there’s a noticeable gap, unlike the WJ version).

So it's the 1924 banquet, where the pennants are already anointing them "Champions" prematurely. Perhaps they filled in the circle with WaJo for sale at the ballpark during the series, though one would think more than one of those would have survived if that's the case. And this is the picture that was included in the 1925 program, oddly.

What eye candy those Washington world series pennants are to a D.C. guy like me! And what incredible rarities, with one or two examples of each known, the mind boggles! I'm guessing all those from catalogs came from Kent Feddeman's collection as auctioned off by Legendary about ten years ago. Amazing to see them all pictured here, thanks much to those posting these beauties.

Nice pennant. I think that layout of the "New York Yankees" text dates it to the 1930s.

I don’t know about the way Yankee Stadium is written but I can tell you that graphic was used for a ton of teams from the 1930s through the 1950s. I have six different versions of just the NY Giants, and know of others.

These took a few weeks to get here, but I'm excited to get them. I saw the Mays first and was rather skeptical that it was real, as opposed to some kind of fantasy piece (with Mays wearing #36). Then I saw the Roy Sievers and figured that it was unlikely that somebody was out there faking stuff for Sievers. So I bought them. Sievers SABR page has one sentence saying that he headlined a team with Willie Mays that traveled to Mexico in 1958 (if anybody knows anything else about this team/tour/games I'd love to hear it, especially if Mays wore #36). I haven't been able to find anything else.
I was able to get the first Mays and the Sievers, but somebody else had already bought the Mays with the MLB team logos. They are about 10 inches long. I think they have a great mid-century look. |

It's funny that the Phillie pennant, in the Phanatic's hand, featured a rendering of him on it, waving a (the same?) pennant!
Looks like this was the only one from the series to feature a mascot, as this, in lieu of a team logo. Which is odd, given how standardized these had all become by 1978.

I thought the Phanatic was greener than that. Looks like they turned him grey, to provide more contrast between him and the Astroturf.
It's hard for me to get excited over these mass-produced, boring and completely unimaginative stiff polyester pennants... but they do represent a better time in life. ![]()

I'd be worried sick about having those fantastic pennants over my sofa without protection. I just know that someone would spill something on them or use them to wipe their hands :-)
